Nishaa and Anmol, The Slate, Phuket, Thailand
Adrenalin was high when Anmol proposed to Nishaa under a waterfall in Bali. However, their wedding celebrations in Phuket were laid-back and relaxing.
Nishaa and Anmol preferred minimalism when it came to their wedding. So they chose to host their nuptials at The Slate resort in Phuket, Thailand. Read more about the picture-perfect wedding celebrations that unfolded beautifully in a stunning location.
How We Met
“Anmol and I met at a house party at his home in Singapore,” Nisha recalls, adding, “He let me take over as a DJ which already made me like him, and from there, we just hit it off. I had never made such an instant connection with anyone else before. Going forward, we kept traveling back and forth from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, to Singapore couple of times each month to see and spend time with each other.”
“A year and a half later from the time we first met, we took a ten-day trip to Bali. He proposed to me with the ring under a waterfall in Ubud, Bali, in Indonesia. I was completely surprised and he was definitely shaking – I think he was nervous as hell. This was followed by a ‘roka’ (a ceremony in Punjabi culture to signify a couple’s commitment to wed that precedes an official engagement) ceremony in Singapore.”
The Wedding Venue
“Getting married at The Slate in Phuket, Thailand, was a no brainer. We both love spending time in nature and The Slate was the right pick as it is a beautiful boutique hotel set amidst lush tropical gardens where pools and lagoons are juxtaposed with post-modern art. The hotel was designed by renowned landscaper Bill Bensely and has a very cool vibe. It also has an impressive landscape design with 700 different types of flora and fauna, and the gardens are absolutely stunning. We wanted everything to be relaxed and easygoing, like a backyard wedding in California. We are fairly low key people so minimalism was the theme throughout. Also, it gets pretty hot in the tropics we wanted our guests to be comfortable and enjoy the celebrations.”
Welcome Party – Hawaiian Cuban Night
The festivities began with a Hawaiian Cuban Night hosted at the hotel’s restaurant. While the couple’s friends indulged in fun photo sessions and happy conversations, it was Nishaa’s beautiful Anamika Khanna outfit and statement jewellery that stole the show. Her makeup was kept natural, enhancing her bridal glow.
The mehndi celebrations were hosted on the expansive green outdoors of the hotel. The decor for this event was full of colors, and the function had a relaxed vibe. It was designed to resemble a fun celebration with pretty dreamcatchers and vibrant cushions. Nishaa wore a gorgeous ensemble by Payal Khandwala for this event, and Anmol wore an outfit from SVA Couture.
Nishaa and Anmol’s glitzy sangeet ceremony included synchronized dance performances where family and friends danced together. The decor for the sangeet was resplendent with floral arrangements, a candle-lit grand entrance, and an impressive center-stage. Nishaa wore a lehenga with a 3D floral embroidery and a metallic sheen by Sherina Dalamal for CHERIE D Couture and accessorized it with stunning statement jewellery. Anmol looked handsome in a royal blue bandh gala outfit.
The wedding was a beautiful blend of old and new elements. The couple wanted the decor to exude elegance while keeping the traditional element alive. Their mandap was set up against the majestic backdrop of the hotel and was decorated with beautiful orange and pink drapes, as well as floral garlands. Nishaa was dressed in a beautiful bright red lehenga by Priti and Dipika which she accessorized with a gold polki set with jhumkas from Pink City by Anita Dongre. Anmol wore an off-white and gold sherwani from SS Home.
The couple hosted their reception on the lush lawns of the hotel which was decorated with beautifully lit elements such a strands of fairy lights from trees and giant candle stands on tables. “Our first dance together on Ray La Montagne’s ‘You Are the Best Thing’ at the reception was pretty spontaneous as we didn’t practice and decided to just go with the flow. There were so much dancing and absolutely no formalities amongst our loved ones at this event. Our menu choice was completely eclectic and we had lots of fusion dishes like basil chicken pizza and tandoori burritos. There was no assigned seating and we didn’t do the long speeches either. Instead, we had Hari & Sukhmani play after the cake cutting. They are one of my favorite bands and they set the mood for a beautiful tropical night,” shares Nishaa. While Nishaa looked beautiful in a crimson gown from Marchesa along with diamond earrings. Anmol looked dapper in a black suit from SS Home.
