Samyu and Bhavik, The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur
This couple’s sunkissed wedding mandap carefully balanced a traditional aesthetic with modern designs with its green, white, and soft pink colour palette.
Samyu and Bhavik’s fusion wedding was a vibrant mix of Gujarati and Tamil Brahmin wedding rituals set against the majestic landscape of Udaipur. Planning this wedding was WeddingSutra’s favourite – Palkan Badlani Weddings & Events, who conquered timezones and continents to give the guests a true flavour of Indian hospitality with a sleek modern spin.
Wedding Planning
The bride’s parents were impressed by Palkan Badlani Weddings & Events from their initial conversation. Subashini Raghavan and Krishna Srinivasan, share, “The team’s calm demeanour, professionalism and reassurance were the deciding factors for us. They understood how important this event was, and we trusted them to make our ideas a reality. Since this was a destination wedding and we were based out of the US and UK, we needed support to choose the different vendors, including the photographer, DJ, make-up artists, bartenders etc.. Palkan and team have worked with hundreds of vendors. Their honest and unbiased opinion helped us select the best vendors for us and stay within the budget. They were always ready to answer all our questions and queries, and work with the time difference between the US and India. When it came to the wedding itself, they took care of the needs of our guests who were visiting from all over the world.”
Palkan Badlani gives us an overview of the events and the couple’s vision, which she so aptly orchestrated to life. “Bride Samyu always wanted a palatial wedding and the venue was chosen keeping this in mind. Most of the guestlist was from abroad, and the couple was keen on giving their guests a flavour of Indian hospitality. This allowed us to get creative and incorporate fun and engaging activities into each of the events to keep everyone on their toes. It was important for us that the schedule wasn’t hectic and that there was plenty of time between each celebration for everyone to refresh. Working with the families was a breezy process as they were very understanding and gave us creative control. Customized gifts, and seated meals with carefully curated menus were conceptualized by the groom and the bride’s mom meticulously. On the design front, Ātisuto Events was at its creative best as they curated stunning events which reflected the couple’s tastes and cultural heritage. By the event, we had become so close – the team and I were so happy to see the beautiful couple get married and start their lives together.”
Wedding Functions
Sangeet and Mehndi
As the guests arrived, they were treated to an indulgent welcome lunch. As dusk fell, the celebrations began in earnest with a mehndi and sangeet ceremony that exuded a rustic vibe with its earthy terracotta colour palette. The guests on arrival were welcomed by local Rajasthani ‘Ghoomar’ dancers. Samyu, being a trained dancer, set the stage on fire with her dance team. On an unconventional note, the sangeet commenced with the groom’s baraat since the wedding was to be hosted early morning the next day.
Wedding
Palkan shares, “The wedding was hosted the morning after the mehndi and sangeet. It commenced exactly at 6 am keeping the Tamil Brahmin rituals in mind. The decor was a stunning mix of gypsophila, banana leaves, lotus blooms and roses. The bride’s aunt accurately explained each aspect of the ceremony to keep the guests fully informed about the rituals. This was followed by sit-down lunch with a delicious mixture of South Indian and Gujarati delicacies.”
Reception
“The early morning wedding meant there was ample time for guests to rejuvenate before the seated reception. The reception was an energetic celebration that commenced with toasts and heartfelt speeches. Ambient lights set the mood for the evening as the couple performed their first dance. Samyu and her dad’s waltz was especially heart-touching. Later, the guests moved indoors for the after-party that lasted till sunrise”, recollects Palkan.
