Tanvi and Satish’s breezy outdoor wedding and reception in Dubai were intimate events incorporating North and South Indian traditions

Bride Tanvi planned and pulled off her perfect wedding to Satish, with a little help from loved ones. Here she shares highlights of her simple and elegant wedding celebrations hosted at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Dubai, followed by a glamorous reception at the glitzy The Address Downtown.

How We Met
“Satish and I met in college and interacted for a little bit, but never really kept in touch. After graduating, he added me on Facebook and we got talking. We met a few times and started dating soon after, and the rest, as you know, is history.”

Proposal
“After six years of being together, he proposed to me in a very simple and sweet moment at the beach. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said ‘Yes’, of course!”

Wedding Venue
“I’ve always wanted a simple outdoor wedding. Something about getting married in a wedding hall never appealed to me. We picked a beautiful garden venue at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel which had big old trees tucked away in one corner. Our guest list numbered 50, comprising mainly family and friends. It was a beautiful sunny day with our closest ones where we vowed to spend the rest of our lives together. Everything was perfect.”

Wedding Planning
“We didn’t have a wedding planner as I wanted to be involved in and take care of the entire wedding on my own. During the events, my brother took over that role – staying up till four in the morning to make sure the mandap looked exactly how I wanted it to. My makeup artist was a wonderful Greek girl called Nina. I didn’t want heavy makeup and she gave me exactly the light look that I was going for. Suhana Art and Jewels were amazing to work with for my jewellery, and our photographer IntoCandid were obviously stellar. Our videographers – Candid Tales – also did a good job.”

Wedding Functions

Wedding
“The decor at our wedding was simple – I wanted it to be a mix of South and North traditions, but colorful at the same time. We picked beautiful marigold flowers for the all white mandap along with colorful carnations and brass bells. The photobooth was a mix of colorful ribbons, paper fans and a quirky cycle. The ceremony was a very traditional one and our decor was in sync with that aesthetic. I accessorized my gorgeous gold lehenga from Asiana Couture with a kundan necklace, a delicate ‘matha patti’ (forehead band) and earrings. I wanted my makeup to be subtle, and Nina was a blessing as she managed to make me look elegant that day. Satish looked equally handsome in his yellow sherwani as he made the grand entry driving a Bentley followed by a ‘baraat’ (groom’s procession).”

Reception
“Our reception was intended to be elegant and upscale – yet I didn’t want to spend an exorbitant amount on it. I designed the centerpieces myself and sourced the bits and pieces from here and there to cut costs. The whole color scheme was based around purple, blue and white. I included lot of candles to complement the elegant chandeliers and stunning views from The Address hotel ballroom in downtown Dubai. The reception decor turned out stunning. It was a lovely evening with some wonderful speeches by our friends and Satish’s father. This lead into our first dance as husband and wife, which was followed by an open floor for everyone.”

Tanvi wore a royal blue ensemble for the reception, and Satish opted for a classic black tuxedo, with a matching blue bow tie to match Tanvi’s outfit. The stage for the reception was lit with candles and white floral arrangements which matched the impressive three-tier cake.

Advice for Couples
“You can manage everything yourself if it is not too large scale and if you plan well in advance. It is also more fun that way. We had loads of excel sheets and kept close tabs on the budget to avoid overspending. Try and enjoy the process as much as possible because once it’s over, you will miss it.”
