Aakriti and Azhar, Hyderabad

This bride chose to keep it light and breezy with a refreshing ‘no makeup’ look and a dainty pale pink lehenga.

Basking under the Hyderabadi sun, Aakriti and Azhar’s wedding was an elegant affair that expressed the couple’s minimalistic sensibilities. A celebration that not only witnessed two kindred souls but also two culturally different families coming together, this union photographed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Dreamcatchers Photography was replete with candid and joyful moments.

How They Met
Aakriti recollects, “Azhar and I first met while attending the same business school in Hyderabad. At first, the conversations between us were quite formal since we’d mainly conversed only on our batch’s common Whatsapp group. However, things changed when I was visiting my grandmother in Jamshedpur. Azhar who also hails from this city, was based there, and he offered to alleviate my boredom by showing me around the city. Two months later, we started dating.

Ours is a classic case of opposites attract where both our personas are rather different but somehow, we manage to balance each other out.

When we finally decided to take the next step of tying the knot after four years of dating, we did face our fair share of difficulties, but through love and sheer perseverance, everything fell into place.”

The Proposal
Recalling her surprise wedding proposal from Azhar, “Both of us were so engrossed in bringing both our families together that Azhar never had a chance to propose. But finally, when my sister informed him that I was expecting a proposal, he willingly stepped out of his comfort zone and popped the question to me at the Mumbai airport! As I stepped out of the arrivals hall, I spotted him with a placard in hand asking me to marry him with a beautiful ring.”

Wedding Planning
“Being a control freak, I was quite clear from the start as to how I wanted our wedding to look. And I must say that everyone on our team did an amazing job! After a lot of scouting, we finally zeroed in on Dreamcatchers Photography who blew us away with their stunning stills and videos. Hosting them at the wedding was a cakewalk as they were non-demanding, punctual, and worked tirelessly to capture the most perfect shots! Each picture from the wedding is a treat for the eyes. They delivered exactly as promised and did full justice to their name. Highly recommended!”

Weddings Functions
Mehndi
Commencing with a lively mehndi ceremony, the duo’s nuptials started off on a high note as Aakriti got henna patterned on her palms. “Following the theme ‘bring out the colors’, the mehndi ceremony was a vivid affair where the guests came garbed in bright hues. For the decor, we chose traditional marigolds that added more cheer to the proceedings.”, shares the bride.

Sangeet
Stepping up the glamour stakes, the sangeet had everyone showing off their dance moves regardless of age. Aakriti says, “With a ‘Bling it up’ theme, we ensured that every single attendee dazzled under the spotlight. As the venue lit up under the glow of numerous lights, we made merry and danced to our favorite tracks!”

Wedding and Reception
Taking the classic route, the couple’s wedding was swathed in pastel hues and glowed brightly under the sunshine. “I wanted a baby pink and cream decor palette in order to complement our outfits. Keeping my vision in mind, it was quite a task sourcing the right colored flowers and drapes. But in the end, we made it happen by using plenty of pink carnations and roses. After the ceremony, a delicious dinner/reception followed where everyone celebrated our union ”

Advice for Couples

When asked to advise other couples based on her experience, Aakriti shared the following pointers:
“Maintain a wedding diary with all your plans, details, and set weekly targets.
Plan a budget for the different aspects beforehand.
Invest in trusted and talented photographers as the memories of your big day last forever.
Start coordinating for the dance performances at least 3 months in advance so that everyone has enough time to prepare and you have flawless performances.
Go for an outfit that’s not only comfortable but also suits your personal style.
Most importantly, do not stress and enjoy the entire experience. When the anxiety escalates, remember that it is your day, and don’t let anything put you down.“
