Aliya and Vidur, The Lake Forest Hotel, Naukuchiatal
Aliya and Vidur’s glitzy wedding was an ode to their romance and the beautiful locales of Naukuchiatal.
When a creative wedding planning professional ties the knot, you can be sure everything will have a little edge over the usual wedding. Aliya and Vidur’s nature loving wedding at The Lake Forest Hotel in Naukuchiatal was replete with vintage accents, boho chic, a minimalist mandap and memorable moments. Here, bride Aliya shares highlights of the grand celebration.
How They Met
“I met Vidur at a New Year’s Eve party at his beach resort in Diu. We instantly liked each other and there was no looking back. I have known him for over 7 years and for us there wasn’t much doubt; it’s been a long time and they say you know when you know. For us, it was an easy transition from friends to family.”
“I had this constant image in my head of getting married surrounded by trees, lots of trees. We finally chose The Lake Forest Hotel in Naukuchiatal from a shortlist that had Shimla (my hometown), Jim Corbett (for its wildlife sanctuary) and Alwar (The Fort). Naukuchiatal was perfect and imperfect in many ways but having worked here on a prior project it struck a chord with us. The choice became easier.”
“Being a wedding designer and planner (WEDDING DUO), we didn’t need to hire anyone. But having said that, it was a lot of hard work even if it was also fun. My father and I dreamed up the wedding invitations; a leather-bound classic book which every library should be endowed with. The inserts went inside the cover of the book and were adorned with personalized bookmarks.”
Mehndi and Sangeet
“Our Mehndi lunch featured Pahari food and live Punjabi music. This flowed into the sangeet with cocktails and dinner. We flew in an English retro band from Delhi who was followed by a DJ who played a lot of old-school dance music. While I wore an outfit by Ranas from Jaipur, Vidur wore Paul Smith and looked absolutely handsome.”
“The wedding ceremony was the highlight of the celebrations. We had a Qawwali troupe who got everyone on the dance floor, including elders, children, and youngsters. Our chef created a sumptuous Kashmiri menu that went perfectly with the setting.
We chose Naukuchiatal for its raw, rugged beauty and we played around with that. The decor was designed entirely by us, an extension of who I am and what I like. My talented team, Wedding Duo successfully implemented and executed the designs. There were Quaker Oats tins as table arrangements, a boat suspended from the canopy and lots of easy, quirky, boho elements that were fun. We brought Mother Nature to the party; we had leaves intertwining the entire canopy and dining tables and there was a moss chair as a backdrop. It was a dreamy wedding and we used faux fur and dream-catchers as embellishments. I wore a gorgeous creation by Anita Dongre and Vidur wore a tailored outfit for the ceremony.”
