How They Met
Amala shares, “Aditya and I first crossed paths in 6th grade at Ecole Mondiale World School, fresh arrivals from Hong Kong and New York, respectively. A year later, we both transferred to the American School of Bombay. Years later, destiny brought us back together in New York City, just as we began our first jobs post-college. A shared love for music rekindled our bond, and during the pandemic lockdown, Aditya moved in with my family on the Upper East Side, just two months into dating!”

The Proposal
Amala recollects, “For our 4th anniversary, Aditya planned a day filled with all our favorite things, starting with a cozy jam session to record music covers for our loved ones, and ending with a Japanese dinner in the city. But just as we began recording, two ‘musicians’ dropped by, claiming to be scouting the space for a concert. Aditya casually invited them to join in, and as the final notes faded, he dropped to one knee and proposed. I was stunned! While the musicians serenaded us, Aditya delivered the most heartfelt speech, and a hidden photographer emerged from the bushes to capture the magic of the moment.”

Wedding Planning
“Music was the soul of our wedding celebrations — a vibrant mix of artists, bands, and DJs lit up every event, each act more memorable than the last. One of the most cherished moments unfolded on the morning of our wedding day, when Aditya and I performed La Vie en Rose at our Garden Party-themed welcome lunch, joined by his grandmother and grand-aunt.
A true highlight was having the legendary Usha Uthup — Aditya’s grand-aunt — perform across multiple functions, culminating in a powerful duet with Kutle Khan right after our pheras.
Music runs deep in Aditya’s family. As a child, he often sang alongside his ‘Usha Masi’ and even appeared on national television at age four on Boogie Woogie. Funnily enough, at the same age, I was at home watching Boogie Woogie with my sister, choreographing routines together — a tradition we still continue today”, Amala fondly shares.

Capturing the magic as the couple stepped into forever was Raabta by Shrey Bhagat, whose keen eye and artistic flair turned fleeting moments into timeless memories. Amala shares, “Working with team Raabta by Shrey Bhagat was nothing short of a dream. Calm, creative, and incredibly intuitive, they blended seamlessly into our celebrations, allowing us to be fully present while they worked their quiet magic behind the scenes. One of the most emotional moments came just before my bridal entry — I took a tumble, breaking both my kadas and kaleeras. I was on the verge of tears, but their calming presence and a few sneak peeks of my bridal portraits lifted my spirits instantly. Despite tight schedules and tricky logistics, they delivered portraits beyond anything I’d imagined. What truly amazed us was how effortlessly the photography team seemed to be everywhere at once. Indian weddings are a whirlwind, but their meticulous coverage gifted us a treasure trove of moments, even the ones we didn’t witness ourselves. Raabta by Shrey Bhagat gave us more than photographs. They gave us emotion, memory, and magic — frozen in time. It’s a wedding album we’ll cherish forever, one we can’t wait to show generations to come.”

Wedding Functions
Haldi
“Our celebrations quite literally took off at 30,000 feet! The festivities began on our flight from Mumbai to Jodhpur, with guests arriving at the airport dressed in their Haldi best, ready to kickstart the revelry mid-air. Upon landing, we were greeted with the most heartwarming surprise orchestrated by our parents that included dholwalas and a vintage car awaited us at the airport”, shares Amala.

Chooda
“For my chooda ceremony, I chose to wear my mother’s wedding lehenga — the very same one she wore on her big day. As if written in the stars, it needed no alterations and fit me like a dream. It was an emotional, full-circle moment I’ll cherish forever”, recollects Amala.

Wedding
Amala shares, “Aditya, a passionate marathoner, made a baraat entrance no one could’ve predicted – by running on a moving treadmill! It was a showstopper that left everyone stunned and smiling. We broke tradition by turning the baraat into a joint celebration, with nearly all our guests dancing alongside us, many experiencing their first-ever baraat and soaking in every moment. We kept the décor minimal, aiming to elevate rather than overshadow the palace’s grandeur. One of our best choices was the west-facing mandap, framed perfectly by the palace, an auspicious setup that made for breathtaking photos. We also opted for amphitheatre seating, ensuring every guest had a view — this made the ceremony even more immersive for our friends attending an Indian wedding for the first time.”

Celebration Party
“Our ‘Sport vs. Stylish’ party, held right after the varmala and pheras, perfectly captured our personalities, Aditya’s love for sport and my passion for fashion,” shares Amala. “Instead of the traditional ‘bride’s side vs. groom’s side,’ guests dressed to match their vibe — sporty or stylish — and truly brought their A-game! The mix of glam black-tie looks and sporty chic made for great conversations and unforgettable moments. The décor was a tribute to New York, where our story began, complete with neon ‘SoHo’ and ‘Broadway’ signs and a glowing city skyline.”

Carnival Brunch
“The following day, our Carnival Brunch was an explosion of color, energy, and sheer joy. This event was a celebration of our first day as newlyweds, and it was as playful and vibrant as we had imagined. The Knights Club stole the show with a dynamic, interactive set that had everyone on their feet. Yet, what made it truly unforgettable wasn’t just the high-octane performance — it was the personal touches woven throughout. With our beloved game night crew in attendance, the blend of music and carnival games felt like a heartfelt tribute to the life Aditya and I have built in New York”, shares Amala.

Sangeet
The couple shares, “The setting for the evening was as unexpected as the celebration itself. We transformed the central driveway of the venue into a dramatic stage. With the palace’s illuminated facade as our backdrop and custom lighting that made it sparkle like a jewel, the entire space radiated a magical glow, elevating every performance of the night.”

Advice For Couples
Reflecting back on all that they’ve learnt, the couple shares, “Wedding planning offers countless moments for self-expression — embrace them! We treated each event as a chapter in our story, weaving in playful themes, personal touches, and unexpected surprises to create something intimate and uniquely ours. What we learned is that joy is contagious. When you’re genuinely having fun and connected to what you’ve created, your guests feel it too. Often, it’s the small, unscripted moments that leave the biggest impression. Above all, give yourself the gift of presence. The most cherished memories come from truly being in the moment, with each other and your loved ones. And when it comes to celebration, go all in. This isn’t just a few days — it’s a once-in-a-lifetime feeling. So if your heart says go big, go big. You deserve a wedding that feels like you: joyful, intentional, and one-of-a-kind.”
