Ananya and Shreyas at Pai Vista Convention Hall in Bangalore

Childhood pals Shreyas and Ananya became husband-wife at a lovely traditional wedding in Bangalore

Our series, ‘Featured Weddings’ brings you wonderful moments from weddings held at the finest venues across different cities. Here, bride Ananya tells us all about how she met her soul mate and their wedding celebrations in Bangalore.

How we met
Ananya and Shreyas whose parents were family friends grew up in the same colony. “Both sets of parents had seen Shreyas and I since the day we were born,” says Ananya, adding, “He even attended my first birthday party!” Their interactions were limited to exchanging small talk in the growing years. However their relationship took flight during a family get-together, and they started dating soon after that meeting. “It was a rather courageous thing as it involved six years of a long distance relationship during which we both completed our education,” recounts Ananya. Today, Shreyas is a Controls Engineer in an Electric Vehicle Start-Up in the US and she is a freelance interior designer. She says they decided to get married once their careers were established and tied the knot on June 16 this year.

Wedding Venue and Decor
The couple got married at the Pai Vista Convention Hall in Bangalore. The three-day wedding commenced with a ‘Couple Portrait Session’, followed by the mehndi, sangeet and religious pujas, before concluding with an evening wedding and reception. Conducted according to Kannadiga Brahmin procedures, the event included all important rituals such as the ‘Devarsamaradhnes, ‘Varapooje’, ‘Kashi Yatre’, ‘Kanya Dhaan’, ‘Dhaare’, ‘Muhuratham’ and ‘Saptha Padhi’.

Space was a big criteria for the couple when it came to choosing a wedding venue. “We needed a place that could accommodate around a thousand people. We felt that Pai Vista Convention Hall was just perfect as it was spacious and airy with oodles of light coming in through the tall windows. Our photographers were particularly delighted with this,” shares Ananya.

The couple chose the traditional theme of orange and yellow marigolds for the mandap decor. But they added a fragrant twist. “Our varmalas had mogras and roses in them and that made the entire mantap environs beautifully fragrant,” explains Ananya. All our giveaways and return gifts for their family and friends were handmade. Ananya even gifted little square canvases that she had painted herself.

The couple also received some uniquely special gifts from loved ones. “Our parents and close cousins gifted us a collage of all our childhood pictures and that was such a touching moment. All those memories came rushing in and we were elated!” shares Ananya.

Wedding Trousseau
For the wedding Ananya wore a traditional rich gold-peach Kancheevaram saree with an ornate printed short-sleeved blouse and a traditional bun for a hairdo, while Shreyas wore a very ethnic ensemble comprising of a white ‘kacche panche (Kannadiga for traditional dhoti)’ and ‘shalya’ (cloth band carried over one shoulder).

For the reception, Ananya wore a pretty gold and peach lehenga and Shreyas looked dapper in a navy blue suit paired with a peach tie. It was easy to spot the love between this charming couple who started as childhood neighbours and friends before turning soulmates and partners for life.
