Wedding Planning
Both Anisha and Avinash love the sea. They wanted to host the wedding in India so that the elders in their families could comfortably attend all the functions. Steering away from popular wedding destinations, the lovebirds picked a location that held meaning for both of them – Mahabalipuram. Avinash had spent his childhood in Chennai and Mahabalipuram also offered a beautiful beach. The bride and groom share: “After many visits to Mahabalipuram and recce of all the resorts, we booked Taj Fisherman’s Cove Resort & Spa for the wedding since it had a wonderful layout, enough rooms to fit in both families, and was close to Rina’s Venue – the location for the ceremony. The wedding was completely spearheaded by Krafted Knots, the best wedding planners we could ever find.” WeddingSutra Favorite, Krafted Knots made sure the couple’s dream wedding was orchestrated just the way they wanted.

Wedding Functions
The main theme of the wedding, created by a family friend Falguni Gokhale, focused around two fish that swim through different rivers of life to finally meet and then go along together on their new journey. This theme was brought alive right from the wedding invitations to the decor. There were large “pattachitra” (cloth-based scroll painting) pieces depicting the wedding of the two fish present throughout the wedding at various locations.

Haldi
The Haldi function was an intimate ceremony with just the couple’s family and close friends in attendance. A small opening in a grove was chosen as the venue, and a very informal setup was created with bright marigold blooms being one of the main decor elements.

‘Shubha Mangalayam’
The early morning wedding ceremony took place in a traditional Kerala house called Rina’s Venue. Marigolds and greens were used to decorate the venue. The central courtyard of the house was filled with water and lilies. The live folk music by ‘chenda’ (traditional drum from Kerala) players echoed throughout the house. There was a sit-down Kerala-style lunch called ‘Sadhya’ served to guests. This intimate wedding ceremony, marking the beginning of the couple’s married life, was conducted by family members.

Baraat & Pheras
Avinash’s baraat arrived at the beachside mandap with the groom and his family. The bride looked resplendent in a peach and yellow lehenga and the groom donned a cream attire whose accents were in sync with the lotus and white jasmine inspired decor. The wedding favors for the baaratis also matched the colors and style of the venue and were made by girls from the NGO called, EkTara. The bride’s mom is a part of the social enterprise that works towards engaging and empowering women from the urban slums of Topsia and Tiljala and helps in developing their skills towards a sustainable livelihood. The couple’s dream wedding came to life as they took their pheras during the beautiful sunset, and the sound of the bells echoed all around with the breeze of the sea.

Celebration Dinner
After the wedding ceremonies, the guests proceeded to the Sheraton lawns for a celebratory dinner. The center table had tribal fish motifs on runners; there were large fish designed for the backdrop which were brought in from Kolkata and mounted behind the stage. The decor was designed by the bride’s aunt Archana, having fairy lights across the lawns. Music by Karthick Iyer and Indo Soul set the mood for the evening.
