Anjali and Karam, Florida, US

Lush lawns, swaying palm trees and the surging waves of the brilliant blue Atlantic Ocean gave Anjali and Karam's Florida wedding a holiday vibe.

Anjali’s father and Karam’s mother were friends growing up in New Delhi, and her late grandfather taught Karam’s father at Marine Engineering school in Kolkata. Karam believes that fate had decided that his and Anjali’s paths were meant to cross decades before their birth. However, they met each other for the first time at a mutual friend’s house party, and over time, they became each other’s best friends and life partners. Here, they share details of their fabulous wedding in Florida, US.

How We Met
“We met seven years ago at George Washington University where Karam was studying. I was visiting my friends and met Karam through mutual friends at his Phi Psi fraternity house party. There was definitely a connection since the very beginning, and that has only gotten stronger every day ever since,” says Anjali. “We realized right away that our personalities were compatible. We had the same type of interests, laughed at just about all the same things, and both of us loved music.” Karam adds, “After being friends for a year and noticing that Anjali and I were pretty much the same person, we decided to take a leap of faith, and give the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing a try. As you can tell, we never looked back.”

The Proposal
“On 15th January 2015, Karam informed that the he had got a promotion at work. I was over the moon and wanted to celebrate! We invited our brothers Ankit, Raj, and Sarab, and sister-in-law Aashna, who happened to be around NYC that day, to join us in celebrating the good news,” recalls Anjali. What Anjali did not know was that Karam had come up with the plan only so he could surprise her with a marriage proposal. “Ankit had made reservations at American Cut a week prior even though he pretended he had done nothing of the sort. At the table, the server brought me this huge menu which he placed in front of me so I couldn’t see straight ahead. He continued to walk me through the menu, and as soon as he took it away, I saw Karam on one knee asking me to marry him in front our loved ones. The moment couldn’t have been more perfect. This was followed by another surprise party with our friends.”

Wedding Venue
“Karam and I have always loved destination weddings because it’s more fun when everyone is together in the hotel 24/7. So we decided to have a big fat Indian wedding at Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Florida. The property is an intimate ocean retreat that is modern, playful and indulgent. Situated against the sweeping back drop of Florida’s gold coast and with the Atlantic Ocean providing stunning views, Eau Palm Beach was our dream destination wedding venue!”

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
“Pop colors dominated the decor for our mehndi. We wanted to go for an easy and fun vibe, so we set up a brightly colored photo booth with suspended frames and exaggerated paper flowers. I wore a yellow and pink lehenga in muted tones by designer Anushree Reddy, and to complement my look, Karam opted for a pastel pink kurta with a blue bandi jacket that featured floral prints.”

Sangeet
“Elegant floral table centerpieces were the key elements of the sangeet decor, which was further enhanced by the glow of Moroccan lamps that dotted the venue. We went for a more matching appearance for this function. I opted for a deep green lehenga with a long golden jacket-style blouse while Karam donned a bandhgala jacket that featured golden thread work. We had some of our closest friends and family performing for us, and it was truly special.”

Wedding
“To be a Sabyasachi bride is every girl’s dream and mine came true on my wedding day when I wore a stunning red lehenga for the ceremony. It was a traditional Sikh ceremony that took place indoors with all our loved ones in attendance. Karam looked like nothing short of royalty in this golden sherwani and maroon turban.”

Cocktails and Reception
“Our reception was preceded by an outdoor cocktail hour. The venue for this function was breathtaking. It overlooked the beachside and the expansive oceans, and the sunset made the ambiance all the more beautiful. After this, everyone headed indoors for dinner. The soft golden lighting and the sophisticated table decor gave the venue and very refined look, and we had some professional performers light up the night. For this event, Karam wore a blue and black tuxedo while I opted for a light blue gown by designer Gaurav Gupta.”
