Bhavi and Ranjay, Trident Hotel Gurgaon

Yacht parties, Bollywood inspirations and a food-related proposal were some of the interesting highlights of Ranjay and Bhavi's romance and wedding celebrations.

Influenced greatly by the movie ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani,’ all Bhavi wanted was a love story and wedding that was a real-life blockbuster! Much to her delight, her dreams came true, and she shared some key moments and photos clicked by WeddingSutra Favorite – ShutterDown.

How We Met
Ranjay’s birthday fell during a work trip to Dubai. He decided to celebrate it with a yacht party and asked a friend to invite other people he knew as some people he knew would not be able to attend. This friend also knew Bhavi and invited her. Ranjay had moved to Dubai recently, and decided to celebrate his birthday with a yacht party and asked a friend to invite other people as some people backed out on a date. About a year later the two had their ‘roka’ at Ranjay’s home in Gurgaon.

Proposal
Ranjay planned another yacht party to propose to Bhavi. When the sun was about to set on the ocean, he took her to the front deck of the yacht. All their friends on the upper deck had their phones out to capture the moment. Unaware of what was in store, she told Ranjay that they were blocking everyone’s view while they were trying to take a picture of the sunset. Just then, he went down on one knee, and in true ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ style, he asked: “Will you be my ‘dal chawaal’ for life?” She responded, “Yes, I will be your ‘Hakka noodle’ for life.”

Wedding Venues
Since Ranjay’s dad is in the army and his entire family is based in Gurgaon, they were keen on hosting the wedding in the same city. They looked at just about every hotel before going ahead with The Oberoi Gurgaon and Trident Hotel Gurgaon. Their reception was held at the Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon.

Wedding Planning
Bhavi had always wanted to get married since she was five years old and after watching the movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,’ it became clear to her about the kind of wedding she wanted. With Krayonz Entertainment, her brother and Ranjay’s sister on her side, she was able to plan the whole affair to look exactly like her vision. The floral decor at the wedding was taken care of by Floral Art by Srishti. Talking about Krayonz Entertainment, she said, “They had planned my brother’s wedding five years back, and I got in touch with them again. They have a very good team who executed everything exactly as I had wanted and planned.” Makeup artist Bianca Louzado created one-of-a-kind looks for the bride. “I spent the most time with her and she did the makeup for my mother and sister as well. She was the one calming me down all the time!” To capture the revelries, the duo got on board ShutterDown. The team was on their toes all throughout and preserved some of Ranjay and Bhavi’s most cherished moments in wonderful frames.

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
The first function in the line-up of events was the mehndi. Fuchsia, red, orange and yellow were the colors that painted the canvas for this event. The decor included a circular bridal seating against a yellow and orange chequered backdrop created using strings of marigolds. The couple made a grand entry dancing to the tunes of ‘Ban Ja Tu Meri Rani’ and ‘High Rated Gabru’ while their friends let off yellow, blue and green color bombs.

Bhavi wore a pink lehenga from Koesch by Kresha Bajaj while the groom went with a black kurta and red bandi jacket. The bride’s mehndi was designed by Alankritaa By Rashi who incorporated her logo with yachts on either side into the pattern.

The function ended with Ranjay’s friends from London and India, singing Bob the Builder. This is what happens post 400 beers.

Engagement and Cocktails
The duo hosted their engagement and cocktails at The Oberoi, Gurgaon. The event had a ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme and rose gold, white, baby pink, and hints of black were used to decorate the ballroom of the hotel, and the stage was decorated using fresh blooms and warm lights.

A grey gown by Kosech by Kresha Bajaj with the logo and date of their wedding embroidered in the back was Bhavi’s outfit choice for the evening while Ranjay looked dapper in a black and white tuxedo.

The function went into an after party, the theme for which was Dark Night and included a lot of glow-in-the-dark elements.

Pre-Wedding Function
A traditional Sindhi pre-wedding function for Bhavi took place on the morning of the wedding. It was held at The Oberoi, Gurgaon. The bride opted for a blue and beige outfit for the event and entered the venue holding an umbrella decorated with flowers. Since this was an intimate function the decor was minimalistic and the highlight was a backdrop created using leaves and marigold blooms.

Wedding
The theme of the wedding was inspired by Indian aesthetics, and the decor was done in white and golden hues for that elegant touch. Bhavi entered the venue in a Sabyasachi outfit with 12 bridesmaids who all wore matching jewellery which was gifted to them by the bride. They danced to the song ‘Afreen,’ and behind them, the beautiful bride walked under a ‘phoolon ka chaadar’ (floral canopy) held aloft by her brothers.

Hangover Brunch
The following morning, the couple hosted a brunch where they entered in customized bathrobes with their nephews and cousins. For the function, they wore coordinated T-Shirts. The vibe at this function was very chilled out, and the street food was the highlight of the buffet.

Reception
The reception took place at Kingdom of Dreams and was a picture of opulence and grandeur. Bhavi and Ranjay entered with the Indian army band playing by their side. The bride looked resplendent in a navy and gold lehenga by Manish Malhotra while the groom was dapper in a navy jacket and beige Jodhpur pants.

Advice for Couples
“It is a great experience planning your wedding, and you should enjoy the process. You don’t need to have a big lavish wedding. You can keep it as personal as possible. Do go for your bachelors trip before the big day because that is probably the only break you will get before the madness begins and you will always cherish it.”

A wedding is great as long as everyone’s having fun and even better if the bride and groom do too.
