Bhavna and Ankit, West Bengal
The hills of Kalimpong resounded with the colors, music and warmth of this couple's vibrant wedding celebrations.
Kolkata-based Bhavna and Ankit first met each through an arranged marriage setup and clicked almost instantly. They chose to wed in the charming hill town of Kalimpong, in West Bengal and hired WeddingSutra Favorite – Crystal Ball Events to plan each function with creative flair while incorporating traditional Marwari rituals.
How They Met
“Ankit and I first met through our parents who thought we’d be a good match. At that time he was handling his real estate business, and I was pursuing my career in Manipal. From the first meeting itself sparks flew and we immediately clicked. It almost seemed as if I was meeting my second half! After meeting thrice we decided to keep in touch for a week before we made a final decision. On my part, the decision was fairly easy as I knew that he was the one for me from the first meeting itself.”
“I’d always envisioned an outstation wedding for myself. That’s when Ankit proposed that we consider Kalimpong since his family have their roots there. This led me to do a quick search online and I was absolutely floored by what I saw.
We decided to get married at the Mayfair Himalayan Spa Resort since it had a lot of emotional significance given that it was close to the building where Ankit was born. Also, the resort gave us beautiful views of the surroundings and we were impressed by the team’s impeccable hospitality.”
To plan their stunning destination wedding, the duo roped in top vendors such as Crystal Ball Events. Ankita shares, “The team of Crystal Ball Events did a fantastic job, and their creativity and dedication remained high throughout the nuptials. When it came to ideation, they were unbeatable.”
Adding to the team were makeup artist Amit Kumar and Capture Photos and Films who gave the couple a treasure trove of lasting memories.
Held under the starry night sky, the mehndi was far from traditional and exuded modern vibes. With tasseled hangings, vintage chandeliers, fairy lights and vintage bulbs, the decor contrasted beautifully against the night sky. Shielding the guests from the cold mountain winds were portable, covered fireplaces that exuded warmth.
Keeping it simple, Bhavna chose an off-white lehenga for the occasion, while Ankit donned a grey printed bandhgala suit.
A true riot of colors, the ‘bhaat’ function followed a more traditional route by incorporating Marwari songs and traditions. Held under the sunny sky, the event saw decor setups featuring pink and orange drapes and canopies. Adding her own dash of color to the event was the happy bride, who twirled around in her pretty pink lehenga while her family danced around her.
The third function in the three-day celebrations, the stylish sangeet unfolded in front of a magnificent stage. Ankit and Bhavna proposed to each other in front of their families. She looked lovely in a white lehenga and curled tresses, while Ankit wore a green suit. Both joined their glamorous guests on the dance floor as the DJ made everyone groove to his rocking playlist.
An ‘all yellow’ affair, the haldi ceremony included a pool party where everyone cooled off under the warm sun. Dressed in yellow hues, guests enjoyed themselves to the fullest as they smeared the bride and groom with turmeric paste. Peppered with marigold blooms and colorful balloons, the decor at this event was all about vibrant setups and energy levels were high as everyone hit the dance floor.
Featuring delicate blooms and golden vintage bulbs, the wedding decor fused tradition with contemporary elements seamlessly. From traditional dancers who heralded the bride’s entry, cold pyros that lit up the garlanding ceremony to a pastel pink and white mandap, the wedding ceremony was an elegant affair. Looking radiant in a ruby red and gold embroidered lehenga, the bride paired her outfit with a simple diamond necklace. Ankit, on the other hand, contrasted her in a white sherwani.
Advice For Couples
“Don’t stress too much and make sure you hire a good wedding planner. In my case, the planning team was present every step of the way and ensured that we didn’t have to stress too much about the logistics. Also, start shopping for your wardrobe at least three to four months before the wedding.”
