Davina and Nikhil, The Lalit, Chandigarh
From Punjabi folk music to dhol drummers, and an Anand Karaj ceremony, Davina and Nikhil's wedding was authentic and endearing.
They first met in Chandigarh, and as destiny would have it, Davina and Nikhil got married there too. WeddingSutra Favorite – Sunny Dhiman Photography captured all the candid moments of the fun festivities in beautiful frames. Here, the couple shares some fun memories of the celebrations.
How They Met
Passionate about dancing, Chandigarh-based Davina and Nikhil crossed paths in college when they joined the dance team. Their friendship turned into a romance that endured even after they moved to different cities for their careers. The distance, despite being challenging, reaffirmed their faith in their love, and soon after they reunited in Chandigarh, Nikhil proposed to Davina with a ring.
Wedding Planning
The couple hired Sunny Dhiman Photography to capture all the beautiful moments of the festivities. They share, “Right from the pre-wedding shoot to getting the edited pictures, everything went really smoothly. We couldn’t be happier with the final pictures and professionalism of the team.” The planning and execution of the wedding was entrusted to Dew Experts, while the invites were created by Big Bytes.
Wedding Functions
Ring Ceremony
The wedding celebrations commenced with the ring ceremony, which featured opulent red decor by Tarun Mahajan. Fabulous performances by loved ones led to everyone dancing till the wee hours of the morning. Davina teamed her shimmering Falguni and Shane Peacock lehenga with statement polka jewellery, while Nikhil looked chic in a blue tuxedo.
Haldi
The haldi ceremony was all about bright marigold blooms when it came to decor, and the pretty flowers covered every conceivable surface. The couple radiated a happy glow in their matching yellow ensembles as their friends and family members smeared them with turmeric paste.
Mehndi
Davina hosted a poolside mehndi ceremony, which included a folk performance by Pammi Bai. The groom’s side celebrated a traditional Jaggo night with dhol beats by energetic drummers, and Nikhil took to the streets of his neighborhood in an e-rickshaw.
Wedding
The couple got married in a traditional Sikh Anand Karaj ceremony that was held in a gurudwara, after which they headed to The Lalit for lunch. The romantic pastel decor at the wedding complimented the pink hues of the couple’s coordinated ensembles.
Advice for Couples
“Always be on the same page as a couple, and start by deciding what kind of wedding and functions you want to have. We did a lot of research on wedding blogs and websites for decor ideas and vendor recommendations. Most importantly, while planning the schedule, allow for breathing time between functions so you get to rest and refresh for the next function to the fullest.”
