How They Met
Deveshi, an Entrepreneur educated from Boston University and Utkarsh, an Industrialist hailing from UC Berkeley and ISB, met by chance or one may say it’s all about fate.

Deveshi shares, “We met randomly at a common friend’s engagement party right before the lockdown. Although we had heard of and seen each other in public places previously, we had never interacted. The first conversation was seven-hours long and had us finally leaving the party and chilling at a hotel coffee shop until six am! Our connection was instant, and we seemed to fit like two puzzle pieces together. Since we both were traveling for a month after we first met, we constantly kept in touch. After a few romantic dates, the lockdown was announced but we still found a way to meet every single day.”

The Proposal
Deveshi recollects, “Even after so many months of dating, we still celebrated month anniversaries and this time for our fourth one, Utkarsh had apparently arranged a ‘tea’ date on the terrace of a hotel suite. As usual, he picked me up and gave me gifts on our drive to the venue. I used to pride myself on being able to read people and smell out surprises but this one totally caught me off guard! The entire suite was bathed in pink balloons, roses, a tent and fairy lights. Additionally, there were even pink post-it notes on the bathroom mirror! A group of our friends burst in from one of the rooms to surprise us and Utkarsh dragged me to the dance floor for a slow dance. Slowly he opened his jacket, reached into his pocket and got down on one knee to pop the question. This was followed by a long speech of everything he loved about me, and I watched it all while still in a happy daze! I was then shown the cutest video of his closest friends all around the world welcoming me into the family!”

Weddings Functions

Cocktail
Deveshi shares, “We went for a modern speakeasy bar theme where everyone was given a passcode in the form of a riddle to enter. The decor was also a reflection of the contemporary mood with plenty of brass influences to match the theme of the event. Glass flooring reflected the twinkling lights while brass birds were suspended from the ceiling. Guests were thrilled by the numerous photo-op areas for them to take their selfies, and there was also a blind alcohol-tasting session!”

Mehendi
Hosted by the pool, the Mehndi followed a classic floral theme that dazzled with its colorful hues in the sunlight. Deveshi shares, “The Mehendi was an engaging function where we had live interactive cocktails for the guests to make their own drinks, a live perfume bar, a tarot reading counter, a fluid art bar, an espresso bar and a matcha bar that served cocktails and matcha infused espresso. On the decor front, it was decidedly feminine with a plethora of blooms, teacups and fountains along with vintage colonial elements.

The decor exuded a ‘Soho House’ vibe with its candlestands, luxurious furniture, wooden flooring and modern art in earthy brown, black and red hues. Knowing that everyone will be working up an appetite after their session on the dancefloor, the duo decided to offer a stunning spread of delicacies. Deveshi shares, “For the Sangeet night, we flew in head chefs and their teams to make their respective specialty cuisines and our favorite dishes from the Oberois all over India!”

Telbaan
Traditionally themed around a vibrant Rajasthani phoolon ki holi, the couple’s Telbaan flaunted yellow-hued blooms and huge urlis in which they enjoyed a shower of petals after their boisterous Haldi session. Rajasthani folk dancers in their colorful costumes added a dash of color to the event while portraits of deities injected positivity into the celebrations.

Wedding
For the big day, all stops were pulled out as the planning team delivered a Wedding celebration that was true to the bride’s vision. The happy bride shares, “The theme for our Marwari wedding was a whimsical garden swathed in hues of pastel. Everything was dreamy and fairytale-like right from the huge tree trunks crafted out of rope, the gleaming crystal chandeliers, huge vases, vintage glass lamps and white laser cut separators with mirrors.”

Advice For Couples
Deveshi advises, “Be decisive. You need to be quick with your decisions or things will seem never-ending and you’ll never be able to complete the list. Also, you need to be clear regarding what you want and go with your instinct on how you want the wedding to be. Everyone will give their opinions and tell you how your wedding should be, but ultimately, it should be you who calls the shots!

Also, at the risk of sounding cliched, don’t stress! All those months of planning will lead up to two or three days of events which will end in a jiffy. From the time the functions start to the morning you wake up after the wedding, time just flies! Hence it’s very important to savor those moments during the wedding and not get caught up in stressing or planning other things at that time. It’s not just your wedding, it’s also a union of two families. Don’t try to be a perfectionist or get caught up in small disagreements. Let things flow and focus on the larger picture.”
