Devika and Akshat, Genting Dream Cruise, Singapore
Devika and Akshat created waves with their lavish wedding aboard a luxury cruise liner.
After exploring multiple destinations around the world for their big, fabulous, Punjabi wedding, Devika and Akshat chose to get married on a cruise liner that sailed along the Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand route. The couple entrusted WeddingSutra Favorite – Foreign Wedding Planners to organize the challenging but ultimately rewarding festivities on the high seas.
How They Met
Akshat and Devika’s love story began one summer evening thanks to the former’s pet – Sammy. Yes, it was Akshat’s golden retriever and his adorable antics that got them talking and led to Devika frequenting Akshat’s house to meet Sammy. Being foodies, they started exploring popular joints around New Delhi, and with each meeting, their relationship deepened and they gradually fell in love with each other.
After dating for a little over three years, the duo decided to tie the knot at one of the most offbeat destinations for a wedding – a cruise liner! They wanted to do something unique for their special day. With Foreign Wedding Planners, they explored options available in more than 13 countries and finally decided on one of the largest cruise liners – the Genting Dream Cruise as their wedding venue. The family hosted four-days of wedding celebrations for 220 guests as the ship cruised between Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand.
The themes for the wedding were planned keeping in mind the dynamics of a moving ship. The vast blue ocean extended as far as eyes could see; and the distant sight of mountains and occasional docks gave the venue an edge over conventional landlocked wedding locations. The limitations that come with hosting a cruise wedding inspired the wedding planners to come up with innovative and budget-friendly ideas which made the whole experience even more special for everyone involved.
Talking about their experience of working with Foreign Wedding Planners (FWP), the groom’s brother shared, “Akshat’s wedding took place on Genting Dream Cruise Singapore in beginning of the year 2019. FWP team did a great job in designing, managing and organizing this grand affair with 220 guests on-board. Cruise weddings are a very new and novel concept, and hosting a big fat Punjabi wedding in such a setting posed many challenges. We were able to overcome all of them with the constant support of team FWP.”
Once onboard, the festivities took off with the ring ceremony that was an elegant affair. The bride wore an embellished champagne-colored gown with a layered tulle bottom and a train, while the groom wore a black bandhgala for this function.
The amenities available on the luxurious cruise included a pool and that was reason enough to host a ‘Fun Euphoria’ themed pool party. The decor and setup were kept light and colorful to match the natural vibe surrounding the cruise. The couple chose pastel outfits for the party and had a blast as they danced with their loved ones.
Devika and Akshat gave the beautiful age-old tradition of mehndi a modern-day twist by hosting a neon-themed party. The guests took over the dance floor, and bright neon lights and party accessories created a heady atmosphere in the room.
The bride and groom looked perfect as they assembled for the varmala ceremony. Devika dressed in shades of pink and Akshat chose an embroidered white sherwani and a red shawl for this function. The theme of the nuptials was ‘Banaras.’ Red and white fabric with traditional prints along with strings of white flowers was used to create the mandap. The view of the water in the backdrop against the setting sun resembled the ghats of Banaras which is exactly the vibe that the couple wanted.
The wedding party bid adieu to the breathtaking views and headed inside to begin the spirited celebrations. The guests raised a toast to the newlywed couple during the ‘Happily-ever-after’ themed reception commemorating the beginning of Devika and Akshat’s life together.
