Here, bride Taranjot shares some highlights and her most cherished memories from the grand celebration.
How We Met
The dapper groom hailing from the UK and his better half from Chandigarh met each other in an arranged marriage setup. Taranjot shares, “Himmat’s nanaji and my dadaji were friends, and our families were acquaintances. Both our families were looking for suitable matches for us. That is when a common family friend suggested our families to each other. Himmat flew down to India with his parents, and when we met, we clicked instantly as we wanted the same things from life and everything seemed positive. So we decided to take things forward. For both of us, family matters a lot, and I fell in love with his mother before him. For Himmat, that was a significant factor in our relationship. Himmat has always been a very ambitious person, which made me respect him more. All these factors put together made me realize that he is the one.”
“I wanted my wedding to be a Bollywood inspired one, while Himmat wanted a traditional royal wedding. Our venue – The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, Rajasthan, served both of our purposes. Also, we wanted our family and friends to enjoy the wedding functions without getting worried about the work that comes along with a local wedding.”
“As most of our guests were coming from abroad, we wanted to give them a glimpse of our country – India. So, all of our functions were inspired by various Indian cultures.”
The mehndi function was inspired by the Rajasthani culture with a focus on ‘Panchranga.’ Bright colors formed the decor palette for this function. Floral blooms and decorative elements further enhanced the pop vibe.
The sangeet was an eclectic mix of both of their backgrounds. The stage and design were customized as per the couple’s requirement. There was no particular theme for this function– elegant, chic decor.
The couple had a traditional Sikh Wedding in the beautiful gurudwara named Arjan Darbar in Udaipur. The decor for this event was kept simple, with beautiful blush tones. The wedding was understated and sophisticated. Since there were pastel tones prevalent throughout the wedding, the bride wore a beautiful powder pink ensemble by Manish Malhotra. She accessorized the attire with a matching dupatta over her head and stunning jewellery. Himmat looked like a maharaja in a sherwani by Sabyasachi and a ‘safa’ (turban) which contrasted with the bride’s beautiful outfit.
The couple bid adieu to Udaipur with a Sufi-inspired Gala Dinner. The reception featured a Royal Theme, focussing on a red color scheme which was highlighted through the decor. The couple took a new approach of using elements and structures to give it a more classy and royal look.
Advice for couples
“Hiring vendors with whom you connect on multiple levels is a must if you don’t wish to have a stressful wedding. And give higher priority to service quality; otherwise, you might end up wasting your money.”
