Jehan and Farhan, Mumbai

This couple's reception was an emotional event as the bride honored her mother by donning her wedding lehenga.

From an uneventful first meeting to a magical wedding proposal, Jehan and Farhan’s journey of love culminated in a beautiful wedding. Hosted across venues in Mumbai, their wedding moments were beautifully captured by WeddingSutra Favorite – KnotsbyAMP. Here, bride Jehan shares some highlights of the festivities.

How They Met
Jehan shares, “We had a cliched first meeting at a club where Farhan approached me when I was waiting for my friends at the end of the night. But, despite serious efforts on his part to strike a conversation with me, I remained pretty reserved and, of course, we lost touch quite quickly. But, I think destiny had other plans for us as 10 months later we bumped into each other again at a common friend’s place! And from then, there was no separating us as we started chatting regularly. Distance also played a great role in cementing our relationship as I had to fly to London for an assignment which extended unexpectedly. Unhindered by the distance, Farhan and I used to talk every day, and gradually, before we knew it, we were in love! And, eight months later we tied the knot.”

The Proposal
Jehan had an inkling about Farhan’s plan to propose but was surprised when he went against her assumptions and instead, popped the question to her in his own unique, sweet way. She shares, “We were four months into our relationship, and on a random night, Farhan suggested we go out for dinner. Somehow, a few seeds of doubt were sown in my mind, and instinctively, I knew he was going to propose. On our way, he changed the destination twice and we landed up going to the same place we first met. However, I was in for a disappointment as he didn’t pop the question at all during the dinner. Next, we went to have coffee and I was overwhelmed with excitement again as I imagined he’d have our friends waiting at the coffee house. But nothing happened. Finally, crestfallen, I was driven home by Farhan who suddenly stopped outside a mosque in Bandra. And there, it happened! He proposed to me in the sweetest of ways and said that he couldn’t think of a place that would signify the sincerity of his proposal better than a place of worship. I was completely floored!”

Wedding Venues
For their wedding venues, the duo decided to go local and chose popular properties that would cater to their every whim. However, for their nikah, the chose to go traditional with a mosque and a home ceremony. For the mehndi and haldi, the Otters Club in Bandra was chosen for its laid back and fun atmosphere. The glamorous reception was hosted at the Gallops Mahalaxmi and the Walimah took place at the sprawling JVPD Grounds.

Wedding Planning
Planning the wedding was a family responsibility with Jehan and Farhan at the helm of it. The happy bride recollects, “We were blessed to be surrounded by supportive family and friends who did everything to assist Farhan and I as we took on the responsibility of planning the wedding.”

However, on the photography front, the couple let the experts take over and hired KnotsbyAMP to capture all the most memorable moments. Jehan shares, “From the moment I saw their page on Instagram, I knew that I wanted KnotsbyAMP to be my photography team! After connecting with them in person, I realized how skilled and comfortable their team is. Not only are they super organized, but they also ask you the right questions and advise you on all the other sections of the wedding as well.”

Adding to the team was invitation designer Itchha Talreja, who with her unique designs piqued the invitees’ curiosity. Makeup artist Kapil Bhalla along with hairstylists Shagufta Sayed and Neetu Shaikh worked their skills on the bride and gave her gorgeous looks for all functions.

Mehndi and Haldi
Jehan shares, “Both our mehndi ceremonies followed a vibrant decor theme with quirky elements like pinwheels, earthen pots, dhols, dreamcatchers, and puppets. Our centerpieces included teapots with pinwheels and cutting chai glasses with marigold petals that added further pops of color to the venue. For my mehndi outfit, I chose a contemporary yellow lehenga with an embroidered blouse and a long jacket. Farhan, however, kept it simple in a well-cut mint blue bandhgala ensemble.”

Nikah
A solemn, family-centric ceremony hosted at a Bandra mosque, the duo’s nikah stayed true to tradition. Even the decor was subdued and simple with marigold garlands for the home ceremony, where Jehan gave her assent for marriage. Keeping traditions in mind, the bride chose an elegant red salwar suit with a Hyderabadi style khara dupatta.

Reception
“The reception required very little in the way of decor as the venue was already decorated with glowing fairy lights and chandeliers that hung from the tall tree branches. However, we did add a touch of personalization with a white and pink cherry blossom background that was paired with a low stage that allowed us to greet the guests freely. The pomegranate red lehenga I wore for my reception was especially close to my heart as it belonged to my mother. This was my way of honoring her constant presence in my life and expressing my gratitude towards her for raising me single-handedly after my Dad passed away when I was very young. Restored by Vida Pret and Couture, it was one of my most beloved outfits.”

Walimah
“The theme followed for the Walimah was white, and it was reflected almost everywhere in the decor, from the delicate white blooms to the sparkly crystal chandeliers. Keeping the subdued theme in mind, I chose a dusty rose and silver embroidered lehenga with a stunning trail, while Farhan kept it classic in a navy blue suit.”
