Kanika and Devesh, The Grand Victorian, Canada

Devesh planned a proposal over a picnic on the same day that he and Kanika had first met, and their Toronto wedding was marked with elegance and energy.

A party at Kanika’ house lead her and Devesh into a celebration of a lifetime. The groom tells us how it all began and gives us details about their big day.

How We Met
Kanika and I met by chance originally. A friend of Kanika’s had a crush on a guy and invited him to a pre-party house jam. This guy happened to be my cousin who brought me along. The pre-party was at Kanika’s place and that is where we met. We did not really kick it off that night but I knew there was something about this girl. After many convincing texts and dates, she became my girlfriend.

The Proposal
The proposal was a combination of things. We had moved in together when we both moved from Ottawa to Toronto in 2015. I thought Centre Island would be the perfect spot as it represented this whole new life we were living then in Toronto. On the proposal day which was the same day we became a couple four years earlier, I had told Kanika we would celebrate through a picnic downtown.

I had organized an eventful day for my future bride which followed a strict timeline that included shopping for the picnic, getting to the private ferry I had booked for us to take to the island, coordinating in secret with our photographer on site, finding a nice area to capture the moment, and getting back in time for a dinner with both of our families.

The day actually started with shopping for food to bring on the picnic Upon making a quick stop at the LCBO I got pulled over and had gotten a ticket. I was worried this may delay things but I bounced back and made it to the ferry in time. I had been texting the photographer back and forth to ensure he could find a good place for the picnic and that I would find him. I finally found the photographer and starting setting up the picnic.

Kanika had taken a seat and I was preparing for the biggest moment of my life. As soon as I got down on one knee I could hear the photographer snapping away. There I was proposing to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate in front of the Toronto skyline. It was truly amazing. After a mini photoshoot and ensuring the ring was now in Kanika’s possession, I was on top of the world. I quickly messaged to ensure that our families were ready to receive us at the restaurant at which the dinner had been organized. We met with everyone at the there and had an amazing time.

Wedding Venue
When the couple started looking for hotels, everything was booked but then Novotel Goa Resort and Spa came on board. Tanya didn’t have to go check the property as she was 100% sure about Accor group hotels. The hotel was super cooperative and also helped them plan the food so well.

Wedding Functions

Wedding
The wedding was at The Grand Victorian and was just the way we had imagined it to be. We followed a pastel pink and white color scheme. Our mandap was definitely the focal point of the decor. While rich velvet drapes covered the four pillars and made for the backdrop, fresh white flowers made for ceiling decorations and curtain holdbacks.

For the ceremony, Kanika wore a red lehenga by Sabyasachi and opted for a white sherwani by Shantanu & Nikhil. The event was filled with cheer and was absolutely amazing.
