Kanika and Varun, The Palayana Hua Hin, Thailand
Kanika and Varun's beach wedding was a charming and cozy affair attended by just close family and friends.
Kanika and Varun wanted to share their Thailand destination wedding with only those who were really close to them. They entrusted the planning of their intimate nuptials at The Palayana Hua Hin to WeddingSutra Favourite – Urbana Weddings and Events, while the festivities were captured by WeddingSutra Favourite – Anoop.Photography.
How They Met
For Shillong-based Varun and Jalandhar-based Kanika, the move to Delhi to pursue higher studies turned out to be the greatest decision of their lives. Introduced by common friends in July 2018, they felt an instant connection and quickly realized they were meant to be together for eternity, and got engaged in September the same year.
Both Kanika and Varun dreamt of an intimate celebration in the presence of people they cared most about. With a guest list of just 100, they zeroed in on The Palayana Hua Hin, in Thailand, a perfect venue for a destination beach wedding. Kanika shares, “Prior to finalizing our venue, we visited the resort for a food tasting session. We were blown away by the range of innovative delicacies they had to offer and didn’t think twice before picking them”.
The couple entrusted all the planning responsibilities to Urbana Weddings and Events, and chose the rest of their vendors as per their references. Kanika says, “Ritu and the entire team of Urbana Events are the most amazing wedding planners ever. They guide you through the entire process and seamlessly execute every aspect. The investment is absolutely worth it, as you don’t have to worry about a thing.”
For their gorgeous shots, they chose Anoop.Photography.
The first day of the celebrations began with the welcoming of the guests who were greeted by cheerful blooms and kaleerein decorations, and life-size caricature portraits of the couple which served as a photobooth. This was followed by a pool party where the decor was done up in beachy hues of blue, and included giant jenga, beer pong and live food stations.
Cocktail and Engagement
As the evening progressed, the pace of the festivities picked up. Designed around a red carpet theme, the black, red and gold color palette of the decor created a dramatic yet sophisticated vibe for the evening. Several dance performances entertained the guests, which were followed by performances by the couple’s families.
The second day commenced with the haldi ceremony for the groom, and the chooda ceremony for the bride. The auspicious functions were held in venues decorated with vibrant drapes and yellow blooms. The celebrations were followed by a sumptuous vegetarian lunch prepared specifically by the head chef of The Palayana Hua Hin for the occasion.
The sunset wedding was a fusion of soothing peach and ivory tones on the pristine sand beach of the resort. The groom wore a Tarun Tahiliani creation in beige with a bandi jacket that featured gilded embroidery. The bride’s lehenga from Frontier Raas was a greyish-blue beauty that featured a pattern of lotus blooms that matched the fuchsia of her dupatta. She completed her look with bridal jewellery comprising pearls and polki elements.
The reception dinner set a vintage ambiance for the evening with its white and gold grand ball theme. Spectacular performances by belly dancers and jazz musicians added a fun carnival vibe, alongside a floral cake and champagne tower.
