Nidhi and Sopan, The Ananta Udaipur

Nidhi and Sopan’s Udaipur wedding was a gorgeous affair with a bride and groom baraat and a whole lot of style and sophistication.

Their story begins with a bout of nervousness and soon winds its way to a happily ever after. Orchestrated by WeddingSutra Favorite 7X-Weddings, their wedding was a picture-perfect, fun extravaganza. Here are highlights from the couple’s cherished occasion.

How We Met
“Sopan and I met in an arranged marriage set up. I was waiting for a client meeting to begin and my dad walked in with my future husband. I had absolutely no idea clearly this set up was so well planned. Still, our journey wasn’t an easy one. There was a lot of initial hesitation and confusion but gradually we realized we shared a lot in common including our love for Shark Tank! We have a unique bond.”

The Proposal
“During a trip to Agra, outside the Taj Mahal, Sopan ‘suggested’ marriage to me! Yes, you read it right. It wasn’t a question, it was a suggestion. But I wouldn’t have it any other way, because that’s what made this moment so special.”

Wedding Venue
“The wedding venue was my father’s idea. He always wanted me to get married in Udaipur. Keeping in mind our large guest list and the hotel’s palatial settings and backdrops, The Ananta Udaipur stood out as the ideal choice.”

Wedding Planning
“We had 7X-Weddings by our side throughout. Their meticulous approach and talented team did not only ensure a stress-free atmosphere but also exceeded our imagination on all fronts. Each function had a different theme, a twist to it, none of which would be possible without their efforts coupled with the artistic vision of Nuptials by Priyanka Pandey. And while they ensured we had a smile on our face, Studio Beunique packaged our happiness in some splendid photographs. Priya Lahon was my makeup artist for the engagement. For the wedding, I had Ulupi Parikh by my side.

Wedding Functions

The Silver Course Dinner
“The wedding celebrations kickstarted with a lavish sit-down dinner. With beautiful fairy lights and intricate frames, the manicured lawn exuded a golden glow. Everything, including the cutlery and centerpieces were sophisticated. The night saw some humorous toasts, rounds of cheers, and some crazy fun on the dance floor.”

The Hawaiian Mehndi
“I wanted my mehndi to be fun, nothing like the traditional! Abiding by my wishes, the décor did not include marigolds but stunning installations in the shape of flowers and birds. While the set-up made for a fantasy land, we also had life-size Jenga, champagne golas and cotton candy stalls which just added to the vibrant ambience!”

The Sangeet and Afterparty
“The concept for our sangeet was, ‘A walk into the woods’! The pathway leading to the hall was decked with bamboo ladders wrapped in pastel fabrics and easels studded with beautiful flowers. We entered on a chariot led by a group of girls holding diyas.”

Mameru and Sit-Down Lunch
“The mameru is a simple ritual during which the bride receives her wedding outfit from her maternal uncle. Keeping in mind the sanctity of the function, the décor was kept minimal and traditional with draped diwans, ornamental flat stools and a ceiling adorned with flowers.”

Haldi
“While an ‘all yellow’ theme is usually chosen for this pre-wedding ceremony, we wanted something different. So we teamed this bright color with soft hues of blue and the result was breathtaking! From suspended dream-catchers to geometrical frames, everything was just picture-perfect. We had games lined up for the guests as well! It was a trip back to childhood as we ran lemon and spoon races, passed hoops, and shot balloons!”

Wedding
“As flamboyant as I am, I couldn’t imagine entering the venue under the clichéd ‘Phoolon ki Chadar’. So, I had my own baraat! I entered on a chariot from one side, while his baraat come from the other, and the dance off between the two families was hands down the best moment of our wedding. Once everyone was done with the naach-gana, Sopan and I walked to the mandap under a ‘phoolon ki chadar’ together. The theme for the big-day was traditional and with marigolds, red drapes, and LED lights, the team brought my vision to life.”

The Reception
“Finally, our imagined wonderland for the reception was exactly what I got, if not better. With stunning chandeliers, white marquees and a palace style ornate gate, the décor welcomed all into a world of beauty. We also had classical music played by a symphony orchestra that further added to the ambience of the evening.”

Advice for Couples
“Firstly, know that everything will be okay and don’t stress over the little things. Also, have a tailor ready for some last-minute alterations. Finally, schedule your time efficiently. My makeup took so long that I had no time for a proper photoshoot with Sopan.”
