How We Met
“We were both studying at different universities in Perth, Australia. I moved in with a friend into an apartment which was just across the hall from Darshan’s apartment. Right from the first time I saw him, I felt attracted toward Darshan. I felt weird every time I was around him. A couple of months after moving in, I had an online math test that I needed help with. I knew he was good with his numbers, so I asked him for help. Since then, we started texting each other every day and got closer and closer, and the rest was history.”

Proposal
“It was a very hot afternoon in Perth, and Darshan had planned a picnic at Kings Park which is one of the many scenic spots in Perth. His sisters were in town, and Darshan had flown my sister in from Melbourne, so I did have a clue that something was going to happen. After a barbeque meal, we were taking a stroll when Darshan pulled me to one side, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was over the moon!”

Wedding Planning
“We knew two things right from the start – we wanted to have our wedding in Perth, and secondly, we both were keen on a small, intimate wedding. Having an Indian style wedding in Australia was slightly tricky. We had to make sure the venue was able to host our two-day event and accommodate 250 guests. The hotel had to allow for loud music, events finishing late and lastly, we had to make sure that the venue would allow our choice of liquor. These requirements quickly narrowed down our list of possible venues.”

“Another important detail was finalizing the date of our wedding. Most of our family members live in Jakarta, Indonesia, so we had to make sure the time and weather would be suitable for our guests to travel in. The wedding process went smoothly for the most part. Pinterest was my best friend during this time. My sister and sister-in-laws to be (at that time) would give me ideas, and we would exchange thoughts.”

Wedding Functions

Welcome Dinner
“We wanted to ease all our guests into the wedding celebrations through our welcome dinner. Therefore, we went with the theme of ‘Beers and Beanbags.’ This was a casual dinner with drinks at the pavilion, and the ambiance was very relaxed. Bean bags made up most of the seating arrangements and string of yellow bulbs lit up the entire place. The dress code was shorts and shirts for men and short dresses/playsuits/jumpsuits for ladies. For this event, I wore black playsuit with an outer skirt designer by Anjali Mahtani Couture.”

Pheras
“I had a mix of emotions inside of me on the day of our wedding. I was happy and excited to be saying ‘I do’ to the love of my life, but at the same time I wanted everything to go smoothly and for our guests to be happy. In the morning, I woke up with the biggest smile on my face! Our pheras took place outdoors at a vineyard. The setup included the prettiest canopy which was created using white, greens and pastels. The roof was covered with fresh leaves, and the arch in the center was decorated using flowers and drapes. Some of our closest family members wore pastel blue outfits, while I picked a peach lehenga by Misch B Couture that featured intricate floral embroidery. Darshan chose to wear a white sherwani and finished his look with a peach pocket square.”

Christian Wedding
“This ceremony took place in a semi-outdoor setting in a chapel-like pavilion. Once again, I wore an outfit by Misch B Couture. My white gown was complete with floral details and a long veil. Darshan opted for a black tuxedo with a bowtie.”

Reception
“Our reception was the only function that took place indoors. Black and gold were incorporated into the color scheme of the decor for this event. My sister and Darshan’s sisters and sister-in-law planned the performances. I just said that we wanted something short and meaningful and they delivered just that. We loved it. I wore a golden gown by Anjali Mahtani Couture for this function.”
