Nivedita and Bharat at The Lalit, Goa

Here's how the 'introduced' marriage concept turned into a happily ever after for US-based couple Nivedita and Bharat

Our series, ‘Featured Weddings’ brings you wonderful moments from weddings held at the finest venues across different cities. Here, bride Nivedita tells us all about how she met her soul mate and their wedding celebrations in Goa.

How we met
Our families introduced us. My mum and Bharat’s chachi (aunt) were roommates all through boarding school and college. They thought it might be a good idea for Bharat and I to get to know one another. We met a couple of times in India and then I went to New York to visit Bharat (where he was working at the time). Three months later, he proposed to me.

We live in California now. Bharat is a consultant and I’m involved with social and charity work. We have two dogs and love to go hiking with them.

Wedding Venue
We got married at The Lalit in Goa. It was a beautiful hotel and a great venue for the wedding. Since we needed about 200 rooms to accommodate our guests, the capacity of the hotel was an important consideration. We had considered Jaipur as an optional destination, but most hotels there cannot accommodate weddings that large.

The Lalit was very easy to work with and did a great job with all the wedding preparations.

Wedding Festivities
Having chosen Goa as the destination, we wanted the wedding to be fun and beachy. The wedding ceremony was held on the beach at sunset, with the sun descending into the horizon behind the Mandap.

We also hosted a pre-wedding party, a mehndi event, the sangeet and a garden brunch.

We’d decided on catering from a pan-Indian cuisine palette and organized local food vendors from different cities, including a chaat-wala from Kolkata, a dosa-wala from Bangalore, a chaat-wala from Mumbai, a paratha-wala from Delhi etc.

Catering- As mentioned above, the food was catered by a bunch of different local vendors from all over India including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Calcutta. We also had a team of chefs flown in from Kolkata to cater an Indian feast at the main wedding.
