How We Met
“Pavan and I both attended McMaster University for our undergraduate studies, and that is where we first met. The funny thing is that I used to live with Pavan’s older sister for a year. Apparently, he would come over to the house, but I do not remember seeing him there, in spite of what he says. The following year, he would start showing up at the libraries that I usually studied at, and eventually, our friends (who were dating at the time) introduced us properly. I found him very attractive, and he also found me very attractive – and it did not take our friends long to realize that, so they set up a double date, only to have them cancel on purpose at the last minute so it would be just Pavan and me. We instantly connected and went on a few more dates, but with me leaving McMaster at the end of the semester, we drifted away. Almost a year later our paths coincidentally crossed again, and here we are, six years later, and cannot live without one another!”

Wedding Venues
“Our wedding took place in Toronto, Ontario, and we chose to host our wedding celebrations at home simply because we both had huge families and wanted everyone to be a part of the festivities. Regarding the venue, our ceremony took place at the Gurudwara Dashmesh Darbar. We liked it because of how beautiful it is, both inside and outside, and has a clean and simple aesthetic. It was also special because it was the same place Pavan’s sister got married and we figured we could carry on and make it a family tradition. For our reception, we chose Paramount Event Space which has the highest ceilings we’ve ever come across. It was a giant canvas that gave us a lot of opportunities to get creative with the décor. We also loved the majestic staircases inside the venue that worked perfectly with our ‘Cinderella’ reception theme. We are big on decor, and both of these venues allowed us to get as creative as we liked.”

Sangeet
“Our wedding-week kicked off with the sangeet, and both sides of the families got to celebrate it together. We went with a ‘Streets of India’ theme, and the decor was full of vibrant colors. The room where the sangeet was held was scattered with props that represented the streets of India – a bangle booth, traditional clothing, rickshaws, and more. It was a night full of dancing, laughter and we created some beautiful new memories.”

Wedding
“Our wedding ceremony at the Gurudwara Dashmesh Darbar had a very regal theme. Our decor mainly focused on colors like navy blue, deep reds, gold, and peach. Our bridal party and families went with similar colors in their attires too. Pavan and I stuck to gold, ivory, and reds; the bridesmaids wore peach with navy blue bouquets whereas the groomsmen wore navy blue with peach turbans. We also got all the members of our immediate family to wear navy blue which was a shade darker than the what the groomsmen wore. I wore a deep red lehenga with a long trail and paired the ensemble with some traditional jewellery. Pavan wore an ivory-colored outfit with a red turban.”

Reception
“Our wedding reception took place at the Paramount Event Space, and the theme was inspired by ‘Cinderella’ and our overall message was that fairytales do come true. Our vendors all did an incredible job helping us execute our theme flawlessly, from e-shoots to the decor and outfits, to concept videos and the tiniest of details! Our ballroom opened with the sounds of the grandfather clock to help execute the theme, and for the entire night, we incorporated tidbits from the classic fairytale to help execute our theme. I wore a white gown for this event, while Pavan wore a black tuxedo.”

Advice For couples
“Don’t follow the norm! Don’t think you have to do something because everyone else has done it, and on the contrary, don’t be scared to do something especially when no one else has done it. Be original and make your wedding reflect your personality, your tastes, what you like to do and who you are! Choose your vendors wisely – especially your photographer and videographer. Being comfortable with your photographers and videographers is incredibly important – you are going to spend almost your entire wedding week with them. Also, give new vendors a chance – the newer companies are the ones more likely to go above and beyond than bigger, well-established ones.”
