Pooja and Amulya, Grand Hyatt Mumbai

Bright colors and happy spirits defined Pooja and Amulya’s wedding as their beautiful nuptials comprised of bespoke decor and traditional color palettes.

When they first met through a mutual friend, Pooja and Amulya hit it off instantly. Sparks flew but it didn’t look like wedding bells would chime.

The bride tells us how they discovered love and shares highlights of their wedding executed by WeddingSutra Favourites VPlan Unlimited and Vivaah with candid moments captured by another WeddingSutra Favourite Knotting Bells.

How we met
“I’m a stop-motion artist and my company is called PopoKoko Productions. Amulya is a plant-based chef. We began dating soon after we were introduced but marriage was nowhere in the picture. Only when he moved to New York for further studies, as we kept in touch through Facetime and WhatsApp, we realized we wanted to spend our lives together.”

The Proposal
“We’d been dating since three years and on our anniversary he surprised me by arriving at my door at 4 am. He told me to pack my bag and whisked me off to one of my favorite cities, Jaipur. We had the most wonderful day there and at the end of it, he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

Our engagement party was as dreamy as a fairytale. Being surrounded by our closest friends and family, the proposal speech and the sweet slow dance after we exchanged rings. It was even more touching and overwhelming than I’d imagined.”

Wedding Venue
“The venue for our wedding was The Grand Hyatt Mumbai as we had a huge number of invitees and we needed a really big place to host the functions. The hotel is beautiful and has one of the best services when it comes to food menu and decor.”

Wedding Planning
“We’re all crazy about the small details that make a huge difference and as a result, even for the smallest decisions, at least 6-7 of our family members would accompany us. It was a big madhouse during the planning, bustling with laughter and anticipation. Also, we designed the wedding card ourselves and I shot my own save the date video. These small personal touches also added to the excitement.”

Wedding Functions

Haldi and Mehndi
“The decor for every function was planned around a floral theme. We played with colors and designs but stuck to different flowers for each function. For the haldi and mehndi, we used plenty of marigolds and bells.” For the haldi function, the bride looked ethereal in a beautiful pink and orange creation with statement jewellery.

Sangeet
“The sangeet decor comprised of red roses and white lilies creating a beautiful palette of white and red as warm lights illuminated the beautiful space for an evening of subtle elegance with a big dose of glamor. My best friend, a designer, made my gorgeous red outfit at the very end after my initial outfit planned for the sangeet was a complete disaster!”

Wedding and Reception
“For our wedding and reception, we used fresh rajnigandha and bells for the mandap recreating the charm of a regal wedding. My entry was very special to me. I entered with Brahmin pandits on either side, chanting Sanskrit shlokas and blowing the shankh. It radiated this positive energy throughout the area. The foyer was filled with all our guests who showered me with roses. My father kept this a surprise from me and planned it all himself. It was an entry that not many had seen before and it was heartwarming to see everyone waiting eagerly for me and showering me with so much love.

I wore a beautiful Sabyasachi creation and Amulya wore a cream sherwani as we decided to stick to a traditional color palette. For the reception, I wore a gorgeous blue creation from SVA while Amulya was on trend in a classic black suit.”

Advice for couples
“A tip I wish I would’ve been given by family and friends would be to just take it easy during the wedding planning. Let your wedding planner take on the stress. Brides must focus on beauty sleep, getting in shape and personal shopping, and grooms just focus on planning a kickass honeymoon!”
