Prerna and Ankit, Amarai Farms, New Delhi

Prerna and Ankit’s wedding brought together traditions and families. The couple got to know each other in a short span of time, taking a leap of faith and trusting their instincts before getting hitched. Their wedding festivities were nothing short of opulent.

How They Met
Prerna says, “We met the traditional way – through our parents. The first time we met, we realized that we were from the same school. For almost 13 years, we had lived in the same building and would have probably crossed paths many times!

After this, we started talking over the phone and decided to get to know each other better. Finally, I realized that the ice was broken and my guard was down. Any doubts I had were gone; I wanted to move ahead. In just a few months of knowing each other we both knew that we fit together perfectly, like pieces of a puzzle.”

The Proposal
“Ankit knows that I’m a hardcore Bollywood fan and made sure that the proposal was filmy. It was a lazy Saturday evening when he asked me to go to the mall with him. I was trying to avoid it and little did I know that a surprise awaited me. When we got there, we went inside a restaurant, climbing a flight of stairs to reach the terrace. As I entered I saw my friends, his friends and my sibling all waiting for us. I got a huge adrenaline rush and, before I knew it, he was down on one knee. The song ‘Perfect’ played in the background. My heart was filled with love as he proposed. Of course, I said, ‘Yes!’”

Wedding Planning
“Soon after the engagement, the search for the perfect outfits began. My partner-in-crime was my mother. She and I went all around Delhi and also looked online to find my dream lehenga. My parents made me feel like a princess! They helped me put together the wedding that I had always wanted. From my bridal lehenga to the decor, the entire process was hard work, however, they were happy to fulfil every wish of mine. Ankit came shopping with me as well. We went to buy our cocktail outfits together.”

Wedding Functions

Engagement
From the time we got engaged, a few months before the wedding, our bond grew even deeper. The highlight of the engagement was Ankit’s surprise solo performance! We marveled over the beautiful setup and I wore a fairytale gown. Everything was just the way I pictured it, especially my groom.”

Sangeet
The sangeet ceremony venue was decorated with rows upon rows of lights and glittering festoons hung from the ceiling. The couple, along with their family members, took over the stage and had a ball. There was a whimsical photo wall that was set up, with pastel drapes, a beautiful chandelier and gold-carved frames suspended mid-air.

Mehndi
The decor for the mehndi ceremony consisted of chandeliers, lamps, flowers and midnight-blue drapes. The groom wore a black bandhgala with beige pants while the bride opted for a golden lehenga and a blue choli. The highlight of her outfit was the waistcoat on which the word ‘bride’ was embroidered.

Chooda (Bangle Ceremony)
The chooda ceremony was a fun yet emotional affair for the bride. She says, “One of the most important functions for me was the chooda. The decor turned out to be exactly what I had wanted. The day was quite emotional; I was teary-eyed putting on the red bangles. I guess that’s when I realized that I would be moving away from home. I just fell into my family’s arms and cried my heart out. On the other hand, I also felt happy and excited to be starting a life together with Ankit.”

Haldi
The chooda ceremony was followed by the haldi, for which a gorgeous canopy and tables in bright yellow and white were used. The floral arrangements also followed the vibrant theme and were perfectly in sync with the decor. A charming swing was set up at the venue, lending a whimsical touch.

Wedding
For the wedding, the bride and groom choose a pastel pink and yellow theme. Stunning shots of the event captured by the photographer looked nothing less than dreamy. The bride adds, “The sky was studded with stars shining like diamonds as I walked under a garland-decorated chaddar with my friends and family around me. My groom, Ankit, was in front waiting for me as I walk the path leading to him. I closed my eyes and thought about all the preparations leading to that very moment. Filled with excitement and anxiety, I realized that everything was just perfect! This was it – my perfect fairytale wedding!”
