Prerna and Shravan, The St. Regis, Mumbai
Travel played a key role in Prerna and Shravan's romance and their wedding celebrations in Mumbai were a memorable part of their beautiful journey together.
They first connected thanks to mutual friends, and after two proposals – one on a boat ride in the Alps and the other from behind a screen – Prerna and Shravan tied the knot in charming ceremonies in Mumbai, which were captured by WeddingSutra Favorite WhatKnot. Bride Prerna shares some highlights from the nuptials held at The St. Regis Mumbai.
How We Met
“I am a teacher from Mumbai and Shravan is a data scientist from New Delhi. We met through common friends at a party very briefly, and then didn’t keep in touch after that for almost six months. However, we connected and became friends on Facebook. One day, Shravan happened to message me that he was working in Mumbai at that time, and thought it would be a great idea to catch up. We finally exchanged numbers and met again. After that, we constantly kept in touch and met each other frequently. Over time, we became good friends. We loved talking to each other mainly because we laughed like maniacs during our conversations. He got a job offer in New Delhi and shifted there. However, we still kept in touch, and since his parents were in Mumbai, he met me whenever he flew down to meet them. A couple of months later, he was on a trip to Europe with his friends, and there he decided to FaceTime me from under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It also happened to be Valentine’s Day, and he told me ‘Je T’aime’ in French which means ‘I love you’ in English. It was quite romantic! That was the first proposal). From that day on, we got closer, and he also met my parents who liked him instantly.”
Proposal
“I had planned a trip to Europe with some friends, and since Shravan was the one helping me with all the bookings, he knew my itinerary. He surprised me by coming to Europe too! Again, this was totally a dream come true! During our visit, we went to Switzerland and booked a boat ride on Lake Lucerne, which offers stunning views of the Swiss Alps. On that boat ride he asked me to marry him, and of course, I said ‘Yes!’ Once we were back, we decided to get engaged. It all felt like something straight out of a movie sequence.”
Wedding Venues
“The venue for our wedding was The St. Regis Mumbai. It is our favorite hotel in the city and was also our first choice when it came to a wedding venue. However, I had an intimate mehndi function at Krishna Palace Hotel which serves up great food. Plus, it is a good friend’s hotel and its banquets are amazing.”
Wedding Planning
“We, along with our parents, planned the whole wedding ourselves! It was preponed from December to October! The reason was because Shravan got a job offer in Luxembourg, Europe. So we figured out all the wedding preparations and planned it all step by step. I took so much time to choose the photographer as I am very finicky about my pictures. The moment I came across WhatKnot‘s profile I knew I wanted them to capture my wedding. Both the events were captured by WhatKnot, and their candid pictures are just a dream! I came across their profile on Instagram, and they were also recommended to us by a friend.”
Wedding Functions
Mehndi
This was an intimate function that saw close family and friends having a great time. The function’s decor included yellow as the dominant color, with other subtle shades such as white and peach beautifully incorporated into the setup with beautiful florals. Prerna looked every bit of a happy bride in her bright yellow lehenga, designed by Urmil, which was paired with a teal dupatta.
Wedding
The decor for the beautiful wedding was simple and sophisticated and included gorgeous blush tones and a pop of pink. Since pastel tones and bright lights were prevalent throughout this ceremony, Prerna wore a beautiful powder pink lehenga by JADE. She accessorized her attire with a pink net dupatta that she placed over her head andstunning diamond jewellery. Her makeup artist made sure that her look was kept subtle and chic, with an emphasis on the eye makeup. Shravan looked like an erstwhile Maharaja in a sherwani which beautifully contrasted with Prerna’s lehenga.
Reception
After the more formal atmosphere of the religious ceremonies, the reception was a livelier event. Bright lights and floral decor made the entire venue look chic and dreamy.Prerna wore a beautiful creation with glittery details by JADE, while Shravan kept his look classic in a dapper suit by Emporio Armani.
