Priyanka and Hemit, Dome at NSCI, Mumbai

From Morroccan decor to the beautiful environs of a temple as part of the wedding decor, Priyanka and Hemit's lavish nuptial in Mumbai skillfully incorporated a range of inspirations.

Priyanka and Hemit’s lavish wedding in Mumbai was an event that mixed love and magnificence in equal parts. To plan this extravagant affair, they had on board WeddingSutra Favorite – Tamarind Global and ensured that their memories were evocatively captured by another WeddingSutra Favorite Reels and Frames. Here, bride Priyanka shares details of how everything came together.

How We Met
“Hemit and I have been family friends since we were kids and spent a lot of time playing together as children. As we grew, we lost touch and being in different schools and colleges only facilitated the gap between us. Three years ago, our families decided to go on a trip to Croatia, and we reconnected. However, it wasn’t until our respective parents started looking for partners that we thought of us being a couple as a possibility. When we gave it a go, we clicked quickly, and 11 months later we were married!”

Proposal
“Last year in June I had gone on a holiday with my mother to Hong Kong and my family friends there invited me to a birthday party of one of their friends. I happened to carry clothes that would fit the occasion, and on the day, I had my hair done. Everything seemed normal till I reached the location on Repulse Bay Beach and saw him in the shadows. Next, I saw a beautiful set up with candles, cake, and champagne and I realized what was going on. It was all so surreal! We flew back a day later in time for our roka.”

Wedding Venue
“Both our families were expecting a large number of guests for the wedding, so we required a large space. We picked the Dome at NSCI in Mumbai as our wedding venue as it offered everything we were looking for.”

Wedding Planning
“Once our wedding dates were finalized, we knew we had a big event to plan and pull off, and we wanted to bring on board one of the most trusted wedding planning teams to help us with the prep. Therefore we booked Tamarind Global as our wedding planners. Larly Bahl took care of the dream decor that made the venue look even more beautiful. To capture every special moment from the big day we had Anand Rathi of Reels & Frames and his talented team. We designed our wedding invites in-house with the help of my aunt and uncle – Heeral Trivedi and Arunanshu Chowdhury who are artists. Popular Caterers with a collaboration with Tukta (from Thailand for Thai food) served mouth-watering cuisines. Helping us with our choreography was Rick, and makeup artist Mallika Bhatt who ensured that I looked my best on this momentous occasion.”

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
“We had a mehndi where the decor was inspired by the sights and colors of Morocco. We made use of a lot of white and blue drapes and chandeliers that followed that same color which story cast a warm glow on the surroundings. For this function I wore a bright orange and yellow creation by Manish Malhotra and Hemit opted for a purple kurta and bandi jacket by Raghavendra Rathore.”

Sangeet
“The sangeet is a function that truly sets the mood at any wedding. Our family and friends came together to perform and celebrate our union, and all of it felt so special! The theme for the function was based on Holi since it was held on the same day as the festival. Hemit and I opted for ensembles by Manish Malhotra for the sangeet. While I dressed in a peach lehenga, he went with a red sherwani.”

Wedding
“A marriage is a sacred bond, and so we wanted our wedding to exude a spiritual vibe. Therefore, we designed the decor to remind our guests of Nathdwara, the town in Rajasthan where the Shrinathji Temple is located. Red and white flowers made up for the major highlight of the decor, and we even incorporated golden bells into the setup. Since this was my wedding, I wanted to wear a color that is truly bridal. Keeping this in mind I chose for a red lehenga by Manish Malhotra while Hemit complemented my outfit by choosing a beige sherwani by Raghavendra Rathore.”

Advice For Couples
“Enjoy each moment of your wedding celebrations. It’s very easy to get lost in the whirlwind of it all, but take a few seconds to take in and memorize those small moments, feelings, and be relaxed through it all. During the initial planning phase, it may feel like nothing is working out the way you would have wanted it. However, instead of stressing out, it is better to breathe, list down the things that are important to you and re-evaluate your options to make your dreams happen.”
