Saher and Shovan, Udaipur

This couple’s Bollywood romance inspired them to have a wedding straight out of the silver screen!

In the city of lakes, Saher wed her very own Salman Khan, Shovan. She candidly tells us about the story behind the name and the highlights of her wedding that was planned by WeddingSutra Favorite The Wedding Designers and photographed by WeddingSutra Favorite WeddingNama

How We Met
My school friend grew up to become my husband’s college flat mate. We first met at a concert and bonded over our common friend’s romantic crisis! We hit it off and in what seemed like no time at all, we were ready to be engaged.

The formal proposal happened a few months later but the moment I really cherish was when he had taken a trip with his friends. He decided to return in only a few days just to surprise me outside my house! It was a totally Bollywood moment because we were on the phone and he told me to turn around. I saw him walking towards me! I screamed “Salman Khan” and ran to him!

Wedding Venue
We traveled around the country virtually and set our hearts on Rajasthan. My mum’s family is from there and nothing beats Rajasthani hospitality! We chose The Ananta Udaipur as our wedding venue. It fit our criteria of a large resort with modern amenities and enough room for all our guests under one roof. It’s a stunning property with a variety of gorgeous venues to choose from.

Wedding Planning
The Wedding Designers planned our wedding, paying attention to the minutest of details and made every wish come true. They knew just when to push us to take a decision and where they needed to give us advice. Thanks to them, we had a wedding without any hitches. The logistics were perfect, the functions started on time, the décor was gorgeous, the vendors were happy – all thanks to them. Rishi made sure that the show ran smoothly without anyone waiting for anything. We highly recommend them to everyone we know. The photography and film team too were as incredible. They did a great job. Shamita Gogia did my make up. She’s such a lovely person! As a makeup artist myself, it was really important for me to be able to trust my artist completely, which was so easy with her. Nirmiti Jhaveri did our choreography. She’s a bundle of energy and had all the groups dancing away easily. Most importantly, she understood we weren’t professionals and kept the dances and practices easy and full of fun. DJ Sandy was the highlight of the after parties! He won’t stop the music as long as someone is dancing! Our parties ended at 6 a.m. all thanks to him! We had our wedding day functions catered by Salt Catering from Delhi who were a huge hit, especially for the food served during the pheras. Our cards and signage were by Artsy Design and our logo was created by my best friend, Aakanksha Shah.

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
The venue was decorated in blue and pink and we had figurines of my favorite creatures, hedgehogs, as centerpieces! Yamini set up a mini-Ferris-wheel and I cannot tell you how much fun it was sitting in it with my husband and my dad! I wore a Natasha Dalal creation for the mehndi. My mother suggested a lemon yellow lehenga and we added some crystals hanging off the shoulders to complete the look. Shovan wore kurta and bandi from Arjun Kilachand with buttons engraved with our wedding logo from Bebarang.

Sangeet
The theme was ‘A Midsummer’s Night’ so we had lots of twinkly lights and fresh blooms as part of our decor. What followed were not one, but two after parties that took place simultaneously at two different venues! One featured a live performer, the other was more conventional with lots of dancing and catchy music! For the sangeet, I wore a sparkly Dolly J outfit in pink and Shovan wore a purple achkan again from Arjun Kilachand.

Pool Party
Our pool party was the only event with a dress code. My side of the family wore blue while Shovan’s side wore pink. Shovan and I were dressed in white and pink, and white and blue respectively. My designer Sharnita Nandwana was fantastic to work with! She tried using neoprene and we were both happy with the result. Shovan wore a tailored white blazer. The venue was decorated in white and lavender with flowers and drapes as key decor elements.

Wedding
Shovan’s baraat was another party all by itself! He had a ‘phool ki baraat’, where all the baraatis were showered with flowers. My in-laws were in a car as they were dancing away. They had a blast and sure took their own sweet time arriving at the venue.

Our wedding setup was beautiful with flowers hanging from the ceiling of the mandap and lights and blooms everywhere. Pink and white were the main colors of the decor at the ceremony. I wore a creation by Dolly J once again. Finding the perfect outfit had taken a long time and wearing it made me so happy! Shovan wore a sherwani by Amit Aurora which he bought at Aza Fashions.

After Party
The wedding was followed by a formal after-party. For this event, we had a flower wall as the photo-booth. The party began only at 12 a.m. and went on into the early morning. For this function, I wore a black gown by Sharnita Nandwana with a bodice that featured hand embroidery and beadwork. Shovan wore blue and black tuxedo by Avinash Punjabi and cufflinks by Bebarang.
