Sanchi and Prateik, New Delhi
From a mehndi on a terrace to the pheras held under starry skies, this couple's wedding festivities unfolded in fabulous venues.
Introduced by a common family friend, Sanchi and Prateik knew there was something special between them from the moment they met. A whirlwind romance led to a roka ceremony within two months, which was followed by a lavish engagement at the Taj Mahal, New Delhi.
How They Met
Sanchi shares, “Prateik and I met through a common family friend and felt an instant connection with each other. It was so inexplicable but it was there and that was enough. Over the next two months our relationship deepened, and we knew we wanted to take things to the next stage, so our families organized our ‘roka’ (engagement) ceremony.”
Engagement
For the engagement, the duo selected the Taj Mahal, New Delhi which lent an opulent charm to the event. This was followed by an array of ceremonies that were held at The Umrao and Amarai Farms which is known for its lush greenery and wide-open spaces. Making most of this outdoor setting, they took their pheras under the canopy of stars.
Wedding Planning
Every successful wedding needs a team that’s completely hands-on and can be blindly trusted when it comes to making tough choices. Ridhi Mahna of WeddingSutra Favorite – Get Gorgeous with Ridhi worked on Sanchi’s makeup, and the photographers from Delhi Velvet made sure to capture every beautiful moment in stunning frames. Sanchi shares, “I came across Ridhi’s profile and was amazed at her work. She had worked with a friend of mine which spurred me to book her for my ceremonies. Anne (hairstylist) and Ridhi did a wonderful job for all my functions and understood my vision completely. I felt so comfortable yet glamorous in all her looks.”
Weddings Functions
Bhajan Sandhya
The first of all the functions, Sanchi and Prateik gave their nuptials an auspicious start with a Bhajan Sandhya. A close-knit ceremony, the event saw the couple and their families offer prayers to the deities at The Royal Park Hall.
Engagement
Held in the opulent interiors of Taj Mahal, New Delhi, the engagement was a fun affair filled with laughter and dance performances by the couple’s friends. The couple also took to the stage and danced to ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran to celebrate their love. Sanchi glowed in an intricately embroidered pastel Indian gown, while Prateik looked sleek in a wine-colored tuxedo.
Mehndi
The mehndi ceremony, held at The Umrao, was divided into two parts, one for Sanchi and the other for Prateik. While Sanchi’s mehndi was a floral affair replete with bright orange marigolds, Prateik’s mehndi was held at a residential terrace that was decorated with neon pinks and green elements, and ethnic motifs.
“The day was made more colorful by our friends who kept adding to our happiness. Our mehndi, followed by a cocktail night and an after-party, which was truly a grand affair.”
For the mehndi, Sanchi showcased the beauty of royal chikankari embroidery on her outfit which was a pale dusty rose lehenga. She amped up the glamor for the after-party in a halter neck grey sequined gown. Prateik kept it light and easy with a blue bandhgala over a golden kurta, which proved very comfortable as he shook a leg with his gang.
Haldi
In traditional style, the duo chose to keep the haldi a yellow-hued affair. Surrounded by greenery and a canopy of cerulean blue-sky, this ceremony was filled with friendly banter as both Sanchi and Prateik were smeared with turmeric. Following the sunny theme of the decor, the couple kept things simple in a mustard yellow salwar kurta set for Sanchi, and a matching kurta for Prateik.
Wedding
“The day began with the haldi and chooda ceremonies that were intimate get-togethers attended only by our closest relatives and friends. For the wedding ceremony, we wore color-coordinated outfits. Prateik picked a beige sherwani with zari embroidery from Pall Mall, while I wore an embroidered beige lehenga from Asiana Couture.”
Replete with twinkling lights, delicate blooms and held under the starry night sky, the wedding ceremony was an evocative affair. As they took their first steps together as a married couple under the golden glow of the sparklers, their families cheered them on and showered them with blessings.
