Sanjukta and Romain’s evocative cross-cultural wedding took place in Kolkata and was rich with local flavor, color and customs.
Sanjukta and Romain’s romance unfolded in Paris, but they chose to wed in Kolkata, India. Here, Sanjukta shares highlights of the wonderful celebrations.
How we met
“Our story is straight out of the movies! Four years ago, I was doing an MBA in Paris and one evening I met Romain at a club in Paris. Most French people don’t speak much English but he swept me off my feet when he came up to me from across the room and said, “Tum Sundar Ho”! And that’s how we started talking to each other.
I got to know that he had stayed in Delhi for 6 months (that’s where he picked up few Hindi lines) and after that we met each other often. Cupid played his role and after I finished my course I came back to India while he was still in Paris. We survived the long-distance relationship, although we would travel often to see each other but the distance really hurts when you love the person so much.
Two years ago I moved back to Paris and started working there. Then last year he popped the big question to me on a beach in Nice and I said “Oui!”

“We got married in a traditional Bengali ceremony in Kolkata. We chose the Eco Park, Newton for all our wedding functions.”

Wedding Functions
Haldi
“We started the festivities with a simple, intimate, beautiful Haldi ceremony.” A colorful setup was created with fresh florals and rich drapes making the backdrop of their stage.
Mehndi
Bright colors formed the decor palette for this function. Marigold blooms and decorative props further enhanced the pop vibe. Everyone loved the loud, vibrant colors at the function and were dressed to match!
Wedding
The typical Bengali wedding ceremony was very simple. The entire decor comprised elegant and delicate floral arrangements. The sea of smiling faces was a testament to the love that surrounded the couple that day. Soon after the ceremony, it was time for the party; glamour and glitz with all things shiny were the order of the evening. Keeping with the vibe of good sounds this wedding enjoyed, the evening was filled with lots of fun music and dancing.
