Sara and Hardy, Punjab
This bride got her exquisite red wedding lehenga embellished with dates and names that were important to her and her groom.
Hardy, a bhangra dancer and an interior design entrepreneur first met Sara, an air hostess and a bhangra enthusiast, when she’d auditioned to be a part of his team. They danced into each other’s hearts, and here, the couple shares some memorable highlights of the festivities.
How they met
Sara shares, “Hardy and I first met when I auditioned to be a part of his bhangra team. However, we didn’t converse much at that first meeting. But as time went by, we grew closer and started meeting each other often.”
After a few months of dating, Hardy asked Sara to join him on a Europe trip. Luckily, Sara was able to get a flight on the particular dates he’d mentioned. Knowing this, Hardy quickly made his way to the Swarovski store in Austria and decided to propose to Sara in Munich which was his next stop. Meanwhile, on his journey from Innsbruck to Munich, he choreographed the whole proposal that was executed in public. With Hardy doing the bhangra right in the middle of the Marienplatz in Munich, Sara was hoodwinked by him with the excuse that he was shooting a video there for his YouTube channel. Sara was not expecting Hardy to go down on his knees and pop the question, and it was a very happy and emotional moment when he did.
Sara and Hardy started planning their wedding a year in advance once their wedding date was fixed. The first step was to book the venue since they wanted to tie the knot on 02.02.2020. Hardy shares, “It was very difficult for us to plan the wedding since we had to keep visiting Punjab to oversee all the details. However, our respective families also pitched in, and thankfully, everything went ahead smoothly. We had a vast guest list and there were several logistical issues we had to keep in mind for the transportation and lodging. To make it easier for myself, I maintained a spreadsheet where I would meticulously note down every single detail.”
“Additionally, the color palette of each ceremony was based on colors that represent us and reflect our personalities. From our wedding cards to our favors, everything had a personal touch to it. A website was also created along with Instagram GIFs for the big day. My close friend PBN also joined in on the celebrations and performed for us. And having always dreamed of entering my wedding on a Mercedes G Wagon, I scouted exhaustively for it and finally found my dream wedding car in the end!”
A glitzy event, the duo’s engagement marked the beginning of their fun-filled nuptials. Equipped with dazzling lights and a spacious dance floor, the engagement venue witnessed everyone showing off their best bhangra moves as they shared laughs and friendly banter. However, the highlight of the evening was the couple’s bhangra performance where they were enthusiastically joined by their friends and relatives.
Jagoo, Maiyan and Haldi
Intimate yet boisterous, the jagoo, maiyan and haldi ceremonies were mainly attended by close family members who smeared the groom with turmeric. Hosted in a venue adorned with blooms, pastel floral drapes, and bold chandeliers, the event was full of playful moments as loved ones helped Hardy get his pre-wedding glow on.
Hosted under a colorful canopy made up of orange and pink drapes, Sara’s mehndi was rustic and elegant. As fury lights twinkled above her, she patiently got henna patterns applied on her hands and then set the dance floor on fire with her moves. Quirky elements like a pair of sunglasses crafted out of marigolds and embroidered umbrellas also punctuated the decor and added a dash of playfulness to the entire event.
Hardy shares, “Sara always wanted a vibrant and boisterous wedding, so we did break some rules by not sitting at one place during the rituals and grooving on the dance floor. However, I’m the total opposite and wanted everything to be completely organized. In fact, knowing that my baarat would be a five-hour journey, we left at 5 am, with me in my Mercedes G Wagon to make sure everything went ahead just as planned. We enjoyed our wedding completely and I remember every single moment of it. From having pani puri to dancing in the baraat, everything was absolutely special for us!”
Glowing in her customized lehenga that carried important dates and names in the embroidery, Sara looked radiant, while Hardy channeled his inner royal in a white sherwani.
Going for a more Western look, the reception was also punctuated with various dance numbers performed by the duo’s friends from the bhangra group. However, the highlight of the event was the newlyweds’ first dance where they waltzed around gracefully on the dance floor. Surrounded by green fields and bathed in sunshine, the reception was a cheerful event where everyone celebrated Hardy and Sara’s union.
