Shashwata and Chetan, The Leela Palace Udaipur
Overlooking the serene Lake Pichola, Shashwata and Chetan’s wedding came alive in the gorgeous environs of The Leela Palace, Udaipur.
Set against those stunning vistas, the wedding was a spectacular affair captured by WeddingSutra Favorite – The Creative Lens. Reliving the sweet moments, here’s bride Shashwata telling us how it happened.
How they met
“We met through a common friend when we were both working in New York. Our first date was at a Starbucks in midtown Manhattan but what was supposed to be a half hour meeting turned into a couple of hours of conversation. Chetan impressed me with his passion for healthcare, telling me about his time working with the healthcare ministry in India and his desire to make an impact. Later however, Chetan told me that only on our second date did he realise he liked me.
Apparently, I ordered tequila shots for the two of us even though it was pretty early in the evening. At that moment, Chetan knew this was going to last.”
“We wanted an outdoor wedding because India is too beautiful to be cooped up in the four walls of a hotel. However, we’d decided on a date in June – where half the country experiences monsoon and the other half, peak summer. Fortunately, Udaipur was relatively cool and dry that month because of its altitude and the lakes. We took a 2 week trip to India, flying back and forth to Udaipur to look for hotels. One visit to the lush, historically significant Leela Palace, Udaipur and we were sold.”
“We decided to think pink for the mehendi ceremony. I wore a gorgeous baby pink lehenga with intricate gold work while Chetan kept it simple with a pink kurta teamed with a pastel blue Nehru jacket.”
The couple color-coordinated their outfits for the sangeet soiree. The bride wore a dazzling, heavily embellished, cobalt blue lehenga for the evening while the groom wore a white kurta paired with cobalt blue trousers.
The stage set up for the performances was decorated with flowing drapes and fresh flowers, making it the perfect setting for a night of happy faces putting up spectacular performances for the couple, who also eventually danced to a romantic number.
The haldi ceremony was a riot of color and smiles as the families came together to drench the bride in the golden hues of turmeric. Smothered with turmeric, milk, rose petals and lots of love and blessings, Shashwata was well prepared to be a bride.
Shashwata chose Sabyasachi for her big day. Dressed in a luscious, deep red lehenga paired with pink and red dupattas, she looked like a dream. Following through on their preference to color coordinate, her groom wore trousers to match her lehenga along with a white and gold kurta.
The pheras took place under a mandap made of flowers and leaves overlooking the serene Lake Pichola. Fireworks added to the charm of the night, as is evident in these marvellous clicks by The Creative Lens.
Advice for couples
Says bride Shashwata, “Choose three things you’ll care the most about and don’t stress about the rest. It’s easy to get wrapped up in every little detail but ultimately there are only a few things that really matter to you as a couple.”
