How They Met
Shirin shares, “While we both were going through our respective breakups, we happened to acquaint in 2016 at a New Year’s Eve party. At the very same party, I met a friend who later became my flatmate in Gurgaon. Ronit, who was a good friend of my flatmate’s boyfriend would frequently stop by our apartment. At first, we were just platonic friends. But over time, our friendship blossomed into love, although we hesitated to make it official. During this time, I left for a job in Hong Kong, and that’s when Ronit realized how much he missed me, and he proposed. Meanwhile, he also got his American green card and left for Austin. A challenging long-distance relationship ensued. Even our parents were unconvinced since we hail from different backgrounds, Ronit is from a strong Army background and I come from a Sikh business family. But our love prevailed and our Roka took place before we left India!”

Wedding Planning
For their wedding, the couple wanted to deviate from the hustle and bustle of the city, and hence chose a 300-acre venue filled with lush greenery, meadows and waterbodies. Spearheading their wedding vision was Plush Weddings who left the couple impressed with their sharp efficiency. Shirin shares, “Working with Plush Weddings was extremely easy and pleasant. From the very first day itself, they were confident and had everything in control. I honestly had no stress about the decor or things being arranged on time as the entire team was super hands-on. I had calls from all my friends and family that were extremely happy and overwhelmed with the wedding planning experience they had, as they all got personal invitations and reminders before the wedding, and needless to mention, the Plush Weddings team was always available at all times! Plus, the decor of all the events was exactly how it had been presented, it was wonderful to see all our plans come alive. They also took care of all the entertainment and cocktails at the events which were again handled perfectly. I don’t think I could have asked anyone else to plan our wedding!”

Mehendi and Haldi
Shirin shares, “We clubbed our Mehendi and Haldi at the poolside. Since my bridal mehendi was done the day before, we kept the afternoon lunch slot for the guests’ application, and as the sunset drew close, the Haldi commenced. Ronit and I were welcomed with color bombs which were followed by Punjabi Tappe and lots of dancing! Since we wanted a colorful vibe for the event, we decided to add dashes of both our cultures with a Phulkari and Bandhej theme. Floral props with colorful tassels decorated the entrance, bandhej runners draped the tables, a jhoola invited the guests to relax while manji and muddhas in surrounding areas gave a Punjabi vibe!

For the Haldi we adorned the venue with rose petals and marigold flowers to get the traditional Haldi feel. Moreover, all the cocktails served during the event were customized with our names and drink stirrers.”

Cocktail and Engagement Party
“A few hours after Mehndi and Haldi, we hosted our Cocktail night which also consisted of our Engagement ceremony where our loved ones showed off their best moves. In fact, we had kept the engagement as a surprise for everyone. It was a part of the performance which involved our couple’s dance! At the end of the song, Ronit went down on his knee while dancing and gave me the ring, which was a surprise for everyone. For my entry, my mom recited a self-written poem for me and it was an extremely emotional moment. As for the decor, we had a floral arch for the lawn entrance, an LED wall stage, tiffany chairs for seating, a rustic bar setup and drinks served in LED trays and conveyor belts”, shares an excited Shirin.

Anand Karaj and Wedding
Ronit adds, “We wanted the wedding to be engaging and fun for not just us, but also for the guests in attendance. Our wedding was a confluence of two different cultures since I come from a Sikh Punjabi family and Ronit comes from a Yadav Haryana family. Hence we decided to have two kinds of wedding, an Anand Karaj and Hindu pheras, which was an interesting experience for both family and friends.”

Describing the decor, Ronit says, “For the Anand Karaj we chose a pastel decor peppered with flowers. The buffet area sported rustic furnishings with peach-hued drapes. When it came to the Hindu wedding ceremony, we followed the same theme. However, we added a chandelier to the decor and provided guests with cones filled with flower petals that they showered on us during the ceremony.”

Reception
Ronit shares, “This was the last event of our wedding, and probably the most laid-back one! We were keen on not sitting on the stage for photos but rather walking around and meeting everyone in person! The decor emanated a dreamy vibe with fairy lights, comfy sofas and a wishing tree where guests could tie wishes for us.”

Doli
Shirin shares, “We ended our wedding the next day, with my Vidaai from the villa I was staying in. It was a close affair that involved only close family members. I wore my mother’s bridal dupatta as a part of my outfit and it was a very emotional moment for me.”

Advice For Couples
Shirin advises, “My biggest advice would be to accept that not everything will go as planned! So don’t worry and enjoy the process. Personally, I followed this mantra a lot when I started comparing my wedding to others. But I soon realized that it’s a unique experience which I’d cherish all my life. Another piece of advice I’d like to share with regards to planning is that your first instinct is the best one as more options mean more confusion! We planned our wedding in less than 2 months and went for whatever we liked first. ”
