How we met
“Nimit is based in Ahmedabad and I grew up in Bangalore. We met in an arranged marriage setup through common relatives. Our families first met each other in Bangalore and Nimit and I eventually started seeing each other over the weeks. The families were really warm towards each other so that broke the ice. Also, when both of us met, something just clicked.”

Wedding Functions
“While there were functions happening on my side of the family in Bangalore, there were a few functions that took place on Nimit’s side of the family in Ahmedabad.”

Haldi and Ganesh Puja – Bangalore
The celebrations kick-started with the traditional Haldi ceremony at home and Ganesh Puja at Hotel ITC Windsor. The Haldi ceremony was an intimate affair with close family friends taking part. The décor theme for Ganesh Puja was all about pop colors and ethnic flavors. “The Ganesh puja usually happens at home but my mom was really keen on making this function a highlight since it’s the first one,” shares Shreya. Hamper trays of Moli and vibrant Marigold flowers added to the festive ambiance. A sacred thread called Moli was tied to all the ladies wrists as a traditional ritual to commence the wedding festivities. Since it was a symbolic event, the Molli thread was a highlight of the décor theme. Shreya looked gorgeous in a lehenga saree by Dolly J. The vibrant yellow colored lehenga saree with a subtle hint of colorful floral designs was accessorized with bespoke jewellery. The guests loved the festive ambiance, and this lively event served as an ideal start for the rest of the ceremonies.

Mehndi and Moroccan Night Party – Ahmedabad
“There was a Mehndi function at Nimit’s house in Ahmedabad which was beautifully done up in white florals and blue décor. This was followed by a Moroccan night themed party in the evening. The key was to recreate Moroccan vibe and give the guests an ultimate oriental experience. Fresh florals and colors like purple, white, pink and yellow within the color palette were chosen for the party to keep up with the naturalistic aura. Lights hanging down from the roof of the stage incorporated the theme of mysticism that is so often attached to Morocco. They also had some performers to further the “Moroccan Night” theme at the party.”

Mehndi and Puja – Bangalore
“The Mehndi function was an intimate affair with only my family and friends at our home. We also had a puja in a Jain temple in Bangalore on the same day. For this I wore a traditional Gota lehenga in orange and pink which was gifted to me by my mother in law. We didn’t have a décor theme for this but the temple interiors were beautiful and we decorated it with fresh florals. This Puja was followed by an aarti in the evening for the relatives.”

South Indian Themed Lunch
“This South Indian themed lunch hosted by my uncle (maternal uncle) included lots of gifts, dancing and great food. The ceremony included a procession for me and my mom. This was in a way symbolic as my mother is officially about to invite my uncle and his family for the wedding and this is called the ‘Batisi’ function. For this day, I wore a digitally printed teal lehenga from an exhibition.”

Mayra and Mehndi
“The Mayra function was for my Mom in which her family is felicitated including my dad and me. This was held in the Grand Ballroom of Taj West End. For both the ceremonies, the décor theme was again highlighted on fresh florals like lotus. There was a life-size lotus made out of real lotus petals in the backdrop. Post this function, we had the mehndi function for Nimit’s side of the family at the outdoor lawn. We had emcee Sid who entertained the guests with his brilliant rapping skills. While I wore a lehenga by Diya Rajvir, Nimit wore a customized outfit by Vikas Rathore. The function had quite a lot of performances that had a mix of culture including Maharashtrian and Bengali folk dances.”

Sangeet
“The sangeet was held at the Princess Green and had a travel-inspired French theme with a Bollywood twist. Salim-Suleiman were the highlight of this evening and the mood was joyful, and the dance performances provided great entertainment. We also had a French-themed décor with a photo booth that had some quirky elements to it. In keeping with the vibe, we made sure we looked like royalty – Nimit wore an outfit by Shyamal Bhumika, while I wore an embellished lehenga by Gaurav Gupta with beautiful jewellery.”

Wedding & Reception
“This day started with an American themed brunch for the guests at Shangri-La Hotel. This was followed by the wedding and reception on the lawns of the beautiful Bangalore Palace. White, blue and red were the main colors for this day and the décor theme was planned around this combination. The main theme for this morning was a Royal Indian themed phera.” The wedding mandap in a beautiful light blue metal structure with heavy red florals and green strands decorated in crystal and pearls added a royal touch to the ambiance.”

“After the more formal atmosphere of the religious pheras ceremony, the reception was a lively event. The entire venue looked very dreamy. We wanted this event to be fun and interactive so that all our guests would have a good time. There was also a photo booth in the theme colors for the guests to take pictures. We also had airplane shaped handouts for people to leave messages for the couple during the reception. The reception stage was a glasshouse with acrylic flooring. For the evening, I wore a customized lehenga, and my makeup look was all about bold eyes and soft lipstick which paired well with my outfit. We also had a reception in Ahmedabad at the Karnavati Club for Nimit’s extended family.”
