Our series, ‘Featured Weddings’ brings you wonderful moments from weddings held at the finest venues across different cities. Here, bride Shriya tells us all about how she met her soul mate and their wedding celebrations in Delhi.
How we met
A year ago, someone had our kundalis matched but nothing came of it. And then we bumped into each other at the wedding of my cousin who happened to be Aakash’s childhood buddy. There was a renewed interest. We’d watch each other during the dance performances, made eye contact, but didn’t get the chance to actually interact and then suddenly, the marriage and all its functions were over and so did this chapter.
I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Somewhere in my heart and mind, I was sure we were meant to be together. About three months later, I got a call from my cousin who said Aakash wanted to meet me. Apparently, I’d been on his mind too! We met and talked for hours and hours, getting to know each other and realizing we had the same likes and dislikes. And now, here we are, married!
Wedding Venue and Decor
After a fun pre-wedding shoot in Goa, our wedding celebrations commenced in Delhi. Our sagan was held at Shangri-La, New Delhi. The decor was simple and we just wanted everything in pristine white– white floral arrangements, long candle stands on the tables, the white bicycle and the pre-wedding shoot LED stands.
For the pheras I was very keen on a farmhouse– an open space where guests could enjoy the music and dance. Whether it was our dramatic entry, live performances, Arabic dancers, the jaimala theme, J-star’s energetic performance, I wanted space. So we decided on Calista Resort for the wedding.
For the wedding, we chose a red and gold theme with the added glamour of antique chandeliers to complement the mirrors, candles and white flowers.
The Wedding Makers
We didn’t hire a Wedding Planner so most of the planning/ coordination was done by both of us and our families. Working with the venues i.e. Shangri-la and Calista was easy and we were very impressed with their hospitality and service. Shangri-la helped us with all our last-minute requirements and they were super prompt always.
The catering at Calista was done by Tandoori Night– everything about them was outstanding, the food, service and presentation style.
And finally, a word about my amazing photographer– Priyanka Kamoj of Design Aqua. It was great fun working with Priyanka Kamoj and her 12 member team. She is so passionate about her work, making sure everyone is doing a good job. Whenever I spotted her, she was walking around co-ordinating on walkie talkies,kneeling, lying down, jumping from the stage – she’s a live wire! Finally, all we have for the rest of our lives are the pictures of that day and I can’t thank her enough for doing such a great job.
