Sukriti and Karan, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel

Sukriti and Karan made the most of their breathtaking wedding venue in Bangkok with classy décor and a host of fun events.

Sukriti and Karan pulled out all the stops when planning their destination wedding in Thailand. Designed to wow with innovative themes and striking decor designed by WeddingSutra Favourite Elan Events, the celebrations in idyllic Bangkok were meticulously planned by another WeddingSutra Favorite Pink Palki.

Bride Sukriti tells us all about it.

How we met
“I am from Bombay and Karan is from Allahabad. Although we were in the same boarding school in Ajmer growing up, we only managed to meet two and a half years ago, in Delhi, through common friends, a couple who had wanted to set us up for the longest time. Karan and I clicked because of the similar values we share. Our goals in life are the same as well. As we dated over two years, we realized we were on the same page for pretty much everything.”

Wedding Venue
“Initially, there was no plan for a destination wedding. But a lot of Karan’s family is from Kolkata. Then, since we were getting married in the summer, a wedding in India didn’t seem like a good idea. With its convenience of travel and beautiful properties, Bangkok began to look viable. Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel’s strategic location made it our first choice. The beautiful interiors and the architecture impressed us and its vistas were spellbinding.”

Wedding Planning
“Working with Elan Events was such a breeze. The decor was fantastic and executed exactly as planned. Every guest complimented the decor. Nipunika and Kripa are thorough professionals and I would blindly recommend them to anyone doing a wedding in Thailand.”

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
“The Mehndi kick-started the fun! There was lots of fun music and dancing. The couple chose a bright color palette for this function that took place in the banquet of the property. Beautiful decor added to the ambience and the bride and groom complemented each other in traditional ensembles.”

Welcome Dinner
“After a fun Mehndi, it was time for the welcome dinner at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. The ambience and decor was unique with red being the dominant color and candles added to bring in a warm vibe. Each table had pictures of us and the unique decor elements were the highlight of this evening. DJ Vicky had the guests dancing to his tunes all night!”

Pool Party
“At the pool party the next day, Karan and I made an epic entry riding a Vespa which was really fun! It was chilled out with fun games, a massage station and great food; exactly what was needed before the big day. We incorporated quirky colorful decor with a touch of the tropical. We even had a flash mob where everyone joined us and burned up the dance floor. This day was nothing but a big party!”

Sangeet
“After the pool party, we hosted the sangeet in the main ballroom of the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. The entrance was beautifully decorated and the ballroom was illuminated with warm lights and bespoke decor. A white and gold palette enhanced with candles brought a magical charm to the venue. Both families burned up the dance floor into the wee hours and by the end of the night, it just felt like they were all one big happy family!”

Haldi
“We wanted to host this haldi together and keep it traditional. It’s such a beautiful ritual and we used a lot of fresh flowers in the set up. With Elan Events by our side, we were able to turn our vision into reality.”

Wedding
“Everyone in Karan’s family dressed in coordinated t-shirts and comfy pants for the baraat which went on for almost three hours! His family and friends had a blast dancing all the way to the venue. Our wedding ceremony was hosted outdoors by the pool where a mandap was created using fresh yellow and purple flowers and uninterrupted views of the property’s lush greenery as backdrop. I wore a powder pink outfit while Karan opted for an ivory sherwani.”

Reception
“The evening was again very elegant; all white with a touch of blue across the linen, stage, flowers to the white bar. We envisioned the dreamy impact the beautiful decor would have for the reception, and we were right – the setting was perfect! Glamor, glitz and all things shiny were the order of the evening. The cake cutting and a few formal speeches later, the guests enjoyed the sumptuous food and partied into the wee hours.”

Advice for Couples
“Enjoy your wedding because these moments are never coming back. Let go of all the stress about planning the day. Make sure to take family photos before every event because once the event starts it will be very difficult to get everyone together. Plan everything together as a couple and do things the way they define you two.”
