Sukriti and Prashant at Lake Resort, Naukuchiatal

Sukriti and Prashant's union was celebrated with great vigor at an unconventional venue in one of Uttarakhand's hill stations- Naukuchiatal

Our series, ‘Featured Weddings’ brings you wonderful moments from weddings held at the finest venues across different cities.

Amidst the serene mountains of Uttarakhand, Sukriti and Prashant’s wedding ceremony was performed, by a lake; a treat for the eyes and the soul. As the wedding played out, with its usual emotions and colour, the playfulness of the couple stood out, adding sparkle to the celebrations. Here, the bride, Sukriti tells us more.

How we met
We met eight years ago and dated for seven before we got hitched on the 9th of May 2015. Prashant works in HR but is also a pilot. When the apocalypse comes, I’ll have my pilot to fly me away!!!

After so many years together, we’ve seen a lot of ups and downs, we’ve had struggles and celebrated successes, we’ve cried, fought, loved and laughed together. We found perfection in our little imperfections. We complete each other.

On the 26th of October 2014, driving with our closest friends, Prashant asked me to get out onto the Sea Link and light a sparkler. While I did it, he went down on one knee and said “Complete my life and marry me.” It was the most overwhelming experience of my life.

Wedding Venue
Our families met to sort out the details. They asked us where we wanted to get married and they laughed at us when we said Kasol.

What followed were a stream of Sundays going from venue to venue in and around Delhi. Everything we saw and heard was exactly what we did not want to do. On Christmas Eve, Prashant, one of our friends and I left for Naukuchiatal, our break from the wedding craziness.

The night we reached Naukuchiatal, we met an amazing couple Kunal and Sonia (they own this cute little place called the Lake Village). They inspired us to do what we love, celebrate our love and not ‘just get married’! Next morning we woke up and the decision had been made- we were in love and we were in love with Naukuchiatal. We had to get married there.

Our parents were extremely apprehensive. Wedding planners refused to do a wedding in Naukuchiatal, saying it’s impossible. Then we met wedding planners Brahma Tattva, who promised us our dream wedding. And we did have a dream wedding!

Wedding Festivities
Our aim was to make our wedding as eco friendly as we could. Our cards were made out of jute, our return gifts were herbal products made in the hills and local flowers were used for decoration. It was a simple but amazing wedding.

The baraat came on the boat across the Naukuchiatal Lake and the varmala also happened on a boat decorated for us.

Our pheras were conducted with the lake as a backdrop.

The Wedding Makers
For everybody who worked with us to give us our dream wedding, we definitely made their lives hell – we were very stubborn, we didn’t let our photographer do a “shoot shoot” for us we were finicky about the kind of film we wanted and the songs.

There were back-to-back functions and my make up artist was so patient with me being cranky and crazy. We gave everyone a hard time, but when we saw the album and the wedding film, we felt it was so worth it!!

Special thanks to our parents for tolerating our nonsense and supporting us and letting us do this!
