How we met
Madhu and I have been friends since childhood and over a decade, we graduated from being best friends to falling in love. We started dating and a year ago, on my birthday, he proposed to me in the most romantic way.

The Proposal
He took me out to birthday lunch and then surprised me with a chopper ride. As the chopper was about to land on the beach, I saw our siblings and our closest friends holding boards that read “Will you marry me Bubs?” I couldn’t have been more excited! As we landed, he got down on one knee and pulled out a gorgeous Tiffany and Co ring, and of course, I said YES.

Wedding Venue
I think Sri Lanka makes for a great wedding venue. I took an active role in the planning of the wedding and made sure the venues also complemented the theme of each function. We organized an intimate engagement at the gorgeous Galle Face Hotel. The mehndi and sangeet were hosted at the luxurious Colombo Rowing Club. The wedding had to be grand and so we chose the lush property of the Kathiresan Hall. Finally, our glitzy reception was held at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo.

Wedding Functions

Sangeet
It was the most fun-filled and colorful event of all. The décor had elements that included decorated bangles and sparkly fairy lights. We even designed the entire dance floor, there were contrasting disco lights and flowy silk drapes creating a nice canopy. This event put all us all into the mood with its joyous wedding vibe. Madhu was surprised by a group of drummers as he entered.

I wore an embellished bright yellow and red lehenga from Moksha Designs and accessorized with statement jewellery that matched the funky décor.

Wedding
Flowers are an integral part of all weddings and we decided to have a lot of them. We had several traditional types of flowers, including marigolds, flown in from India to Colombo. Since it was a traditional ceremony, I wore a beautiful saree from Palam Silks in Mylapore. I accessorized with heavy gold jewellery and of course, lots of gajras!

Reception
Our reception had an indo-western aesthetic with a vintage theme. We had a special photoshoot with our bridesmaids and groomsmen who wore matching outfits. We arranged for six vintage cars, so each bridesmaid and groomsman could sit and pose for a fun and quirky photoshoot. The décor entirely white florals which complemented my glitzy golden ensemble.
