How we met
“We first met in college, part of the same group of friends, we’d hang out together,” Vinita says. Slowly, as they got to know each other better, they realized they had a lot in common but there was something that set Sahil apart from everyone else. “Sahil was the nicest, most chivalrous guy I’d ever known. He had so much respect for all women. We were soon best friends and then began dating.”

Proposal
Sahil knew he wanted to do something special at the proposal, “I wanted her to remember it for the longest time. I literally begged the management at TAP, a bar in Andheri for a week to allow me to propose to Vinita during a stand-up comedy show. So that was the first ‘Yes’ I had to worry about. When they did say ‘yes’ finally, we went with a group of friends. Vinita didn’t have the slightest idea. During the show when my name was announced after the second performance, she was shocked and confused. I went up on stage and in front of about 60 people, I told her how I feel about her. Then I walked back to her, got down on one knee with a ring in my hand. She was in tears as I put it on her finger. After 7 years of being together, we got married.”

Wedding Planning
Vinita says she planned the wedding entirely on her own but… “with obviously a lot of help from workshops by WeddingSutra and the brilliant table of contents on their site. I’d researched each and every aspect of the wedding. My makeup artist for my wedding functions was Kajol R Paswwan. The photography team for all the functions was Pixelgaze Photography who did a brilliant job! They exceeded our expectations in the way they captured each and every moment of my wedding day!”

Wedding Venue
“Juhu Club Millennium is an exceptional venue for an indoor wedding,” the bride says. “Their Gold Room is the perfect setting for over 300 guests. The entrance has a beautiful, very grand chandelier and the hall is gorgeous, illuminated by delicate cylindrical chandeliers. The food, always a highlight for guests at any wedding, is also delicious; it was the talk of the wedding! The terrace connected to the hall overlooks the lawn and the pool; and the view is serene!”

Sangeet and Engagement
The engagement was a great party, she says, “The cocktail party included dance performances by family and friends, followed by the ring ceremony and an amazing DJ night. The dress code was Indo-Western and Sahil and I coordinated our outfits. The sangeet décor featured an LED screen as the backdrop of the stage along with flowers, drapes and small white cages. The colors of the decor were a beautiful blend of white and blue. The entire function was hosted by two of our very dear friends and the highlight was my performance with my girl gang. People cheered a lot for Sahil and my performance too!”

Wedding
Drapes and flowers made the mandap stand out at the pheras, Vinita says, “The theme for the wedding was purely traditional. Even the Manish Malhotra outfit I had customized had an authentic, heavy, traditional look. The ‘phoolon ki chaadar‘ used for my entry to the mandap was replete with roses, a few kaliras and pearl hangings.

Our pre-wedding pictures had received a great response so we had banners made of a few of them and put them up on the way to the wedding hall and some inside the hall.

Once my Bidaai was done, there was a surprise from my husband! A very pretty ‘Doli’ was arranged right outside my door to take me to the car, with the proper Punjabi Dhol and ‘Baari Barsi’ songs. This was quite a highlight of the wedding.”

Reception
The reception was held on the evening of the wedding day and Vinita chose western attire for the party. She says, “I wore a fish-cut gown, customized from Kalki. The stage featured flowers and diyas but our entry was another surprise for me. It was pitch dark when we were at the entrance to the hall. Suddenly, there were LED lights on the dhol and as we entered with the Punjabi Dhol and the dhol waalas singing it completely energized the crowd. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the moment. We went on to meet our friends and family to the sounds of gorgeous ambient music and then we had a big family dinner to conclude the long, tiring day.”

Advice for couples
“I’d just say do your research!” Vinita begins, saying, “Trust me, the WeddingSutra blog helps immensely. You will find everything on the blog. I found my makeup artist and a lot of ideas for my ensemble and jewellery from WeddingSutra. Weddings can be hard to plan. Often, people in the wedding space are difficult and not so cooperative. So I really recommend my photographers, Pixelgaze. The levels of cooperation went above and beyond! My husband and I, along with our entire family, were really happy with their work ethic.”
