Vipul Sangilkar and Charita Kotian, Seven Eleven Club Mumbai

The Mumbai-based photographer’s wedding to his lady-love was a heartwarming blend of their Mangalorean and Maharashtrian traditions.

The most memorable weddings are the ones that reflect the couple’s true bond, and no one knows that better than Vipul Sangilkar, one half of the dynamic duo that makes up WeddingSutra Favorite – Knotty Affair by Namit & Vipul. His wedding to Charita Kotian, which was captured by his own team, turned out to be a cozy celebration of rich family traditions and enchanting moments, as seen in the pictures below.

How they met
“A wedding is said to change your life. In our case however, it was someone else’s wedding that changed our lives! I suppose it is fitting that a wedding photographer would end up meeting his future wife at a wedding” She laughs, “We fell for each other at the first dance, but little did we know that it had changed our lives forever. We knew right then that we had found the one, and tied the knot one year to the day we started dating. But this wasn’t before a memorable airport proposal that I made to Vipul which was candidly captured by the team of Knotty Affair.”

Wedding Planning
With the groom being a Co-Founder of the renowned Mumbai-based Knotty Affair by Namit & Vipul, the wedding was of course captured artfully by the talented team. Charita shares, “When I initially met Vipul, I told him I wanted his team to shoot my wedding. Little did I realize that I would wind up marrying their co-founder! Knotty Affair is one of the best in the business, and we were fortunate to have them capture our story from the start”.

The couple had a clear vision for the celebration, and gave it their personal flair with self-planned and designed decor. Most of the festivities were intimate home held functions with minimal yet memorable decor, while the wedding was hosted at the majestic Seven Eleven Club in Mumbai, as the Pandemic altered their initial plans.

Wedding
Hosted against the grand facade of the Seven Eleven Club, the wedding was a quaint affair marked with warm family celebrations. Minimal decor of flowers was used to highlight the gorgeous backdrop of the hotel, while the elegant mandap was crafted with a canopy of white flowers, banana leaves and traditional matka towers. The couple sported traditional Mangalorean wedding attire in white and red, and they tied the knot with Maharashtrian rituals to honor and include both their cultures. For the Reception dinner, the bride changed into a classic gold saree while the groom donned a black sherwani.
