Aishwarya and Yogesh, Bali and Gili Islands, Indonesia

Aishwarya and Yogesh flew high on a swing in Bali and dived deep into the sea at Gili Islands on their action-packed Indonesia honeymoon.

Their wedding may have been a busy one, but chartered accountants Aishwarya and Yogesh wanted to combine relaxation with adventure on their honeymoon. So they picked Bali and the Gili Islands in Indonesia and planned an itinerary where romance and thrills were factored in at every step.

How We Met
“I was pursuing a chartered accountancy course, and as a part of the course, we have to complete three years of mandatory training under a practicing chartered accountant. I still remember my first day in the office where a tall guy entered the room, and I kept staring at him, only to be informed that he was going to be my manager. That did not stop me from falling for Yogesh! It was love at first sight for me. From being ‘senior-junior’ to becoming friends and then entering a complicated relationship and finally tying the knot, our journey has been amazing, and I cherish every moment of it.”

Honeymoon Planning
“I was always fond of mountains and forests so for me, any destination with these was great! But Yogesh is crazy about beaches and adventure, and so we zeroed down on Bali and Gili Islands. The other destinations we considered were the Maldives, Mauritius and Sikkim.”

Honeymoon Highlights
“In Bali, we stayed in a villa with a private pool named Aksari Villa Seminyak which was breathtaking. In Gili, we stayed at the Lombok Villa Resort which was a decent place as well. Our main focus was on the Gili Islands, and we visited all the three hotspots there – Trawangan, Meno, and Air. We both cannot swim, but the snorkeling trip we took was mind-blowing. We spent our evenings lazing around the beach followed by candlelight dinners and cycling around the island. We returned to Bali, and our major focus during our stay here was on relaxing and spending quality time with each other. We visited a couple of places like the Uluwatu Temple, Tegenungan Waterfall, Tanah Lot, Rice Terrace, Sanur Beach and the local night market there. We also caught a Kechak Dance performance which is a Balinese art form centered around a fire.”

Best Meal of the Trip
“Since getting Indian vegetarian food was a bit difficult, we mainly stuck to a few selected restaurants. In Gili, we dined at Pesona, which serves full courses of Indian food. We tried Naysa where the people were so nice that they cooked vegetarian food for us despite having a largely non-vegetarian menu. The food at both places was amazing. In Bali, we only dined at Ramada Encore by Wyndham Bali Seminyak which was good as well.”

Most Romantic Moment
“We experienced one of our most romantic moments on the Bali Swing in Ubud. Sharing a kiss at the end of the swing while hanging over the lush valley was memorable. Our second most romantic moment was when we went cycling in Gili and explored the island without any particular destination in mind.

Must-experience
“Scuba and snorkeling at Gili Islands are a must, and don’t miss the waterfalls in Bali”

Can-avoid
“Temples, as most of the time tourists are not allowed inside. You can also avoid the butterfly and orchid garden.”
