Honeymoon Planning
“I had always wanted to tour the Ring Road in Iceland and going on our honeymoon gave me one more reason to do it. Hinal and I are quite adventurous and we love to travel like locals rather than be touristy. When I suggested my plan, she instantly said yes. Looking back, I have to say that it was because of her enthusiasm that we were able to cover this 1400 km path, even in adverse weather conditions. Another place we went to was Finland as we both wanted to see the northern lights and experience the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort East Village. Finally, owing to our common love for the mountains as well as beaches, we decided to visit Croatia.”
Honeymoon Highlights
“While driving through the Ring Road, we got a chance to see many awe-inspiring sights such as the Blue Lagoon in Keflavik, The Golden Circle, Thingvellir National Park, Strokkur Geyser, The Gullfoss Waterfall, Kerid Crater Lake, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Iceland’s most famous waterfall: Skogafoss, Skogar, the Solheimasandur Plane Crash site from the 1970s, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoons, Diamond Beach, Myvatn Region, the Reykjavik campsite, the sunset at Goðafoss and Hallgrímskirkja, where we witnessed the mesmerizing northern lights.
“In Croatia, we explored the UNESCO listed city of Dubrovnik on foot and visited almost all the Game Of Thrones shoot locations. In Split, we stayed in Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, the same hotel where the actress who played Khaleesi stayed while shooting. We also went to Plitvice National Park, which has 16 natural lakes and is nothing short of extraordinary. “
Best Meal of The Trip
“We had a great meal at Gandhi Indian Restaurant in Reykjavík, Iceland. We ordered aloo koftas; it was the best curry we’ve ever had. We also had Indian breads and kebabs for starters. Besides this meal, the soups and vegetarian ravioli at Kakslauttanen deserve a mention. That said, my vote for the best meal of the trip goes to the pesto lettuce burger made by my wife. She just hit a homerun with this dish, which she made in our camper van!”
Most Romantic Moment
“We were at Seljalandsfoss in Iceland and the setting was just perfect with snow-covered mountains and an amazing 150-foot waterfall. What made this moment special was that this was the first time that we saw snowfall and we witnessed it together.”
Advice For Couples
Must-experience
“Hands down, you must experience the Ring Road. Take a car, drive through the route and make your car your home. Be sure to see the Ice Caves at Vatnajökull Glaciers.”
Can-avoid
“If you have to skip something, skip Croatia. Avoid it also if you are going off-season as getting ferries can get difficult then.”
