Khushboo and Arjun, Jumeirah Vittaveli, Maldives

From diving into the sea to relaxing on the sandy beach with gourmet treats, Khushboo and Arjun's honeymoon in the Maldives pampered all their senses.

It may take a large crowd of loved ones to plan and pull off a wedding, but a honeymoon demands the company of just two in a location that epitomizes romance. After their busy nuptials, Khushboo and Arjun wanted to head to a relaxing honeymoon location that offered privacy and luxury. They picked Jumeirah Vittaveli in the Maldives which was voted the ‘Most Romantic Resort in Asia’ at the South Asian Travel Awards. Here, Khushboo shares moments of their action-packed yet relaxing honeymoon.

How We Met
“Arjun and I both lived in Dubai where we went to the same school and that’s where we first met. We didn’t start dating then as we were always very good friends. After a few years, Arjun moved to Boston for higher studies and we lost touch as both of us got busy with our lives. In 2011, one fine day, we started talking again, and within a week Arjun told me that I was the one for him and that he will marry me. At that time I laughed it off. It took Arjun two years to convince me to date him since I was against the idea of a long-distance relationship. Despite that, we dated for about four years beforehe proposed to me on April 27th, 2017, during my visit to New York.”

Honeymoon Planning
“Since we both love to travel and see new places we were very keen on going to New Zealand and Bora Bora. However, we felt that since there would be so much to explore at these locations, we would not be able to do justice to these places since our honeymoon was right after our wedding celebrations. We knew we would be tired and would prefer to destress in a pool or a beautiful hotel. So we changed our destination to the Maldives which would allow us to relax on the sunny beach or in our beautiful water villa and enjoy each other’s company without any stress.”

Honeymoon Highlights
“The idea behind heading to the Maldives was to have a relaxing honeymoon. We chose to stay at Jumeirah Vittaveli which occupies an entire island and offers a lot of activities. Since I am a certified diver and Maldives is a gorgeous place to go diving I was also very keen on diving, and the experience was worth every second! Besides that, we spent time cycling, feeding sting-rays, relishing mouthwatering food at the hotel’s BBQ nights and shisha, going for yoga, to the spa and so much more. We spent a week at the property and took part in just about all the activities we could find. Of course, a large part of our time was spent at our beautiful villa as we relaxed by the pool during sunsets and on hammocks at the beach.”

Best Meal of the Trip
“Picking a single meal that we liked the most is difficult since the food at the hotel was superb. They have five restaurants, and all of them were amazing. They also fly down Michelin Star chefs and conduct ‘Wine & Dine Nights’ with them which makes for a memorable experience. I think their seafood is the best, however, if you’re not a fan or prefer a vegetarian diet, try their regular veggie pizza which is to die for!”

Most Romantic Moment
“We opted for a ‘Honeymooners Package’ under which they set up a private dining experience on the beach. The arrangements were beautiful, and the experience was lovely – especially with the waves serenading us. The Maldives is a place which is perfect for a honeymoon, and honestly, every moment we spent at Jumeirah Vittaveli was romantic. Every day we would receive little treats/desserts at our villa. The breakfast champagne setup at our water villa was very impressive. The beach villa and water villas have a lot of privacy so you can enjoy every moment comfortably.”

Advice To Couples

Must Experience
“Diving – even if you are not a diver. Go for an open water dive with the instructor. It is an experience you cannot miss in the Maldives. I would also highly recommend snorkeling too.”

Can Avoid
“Avoid going to other islands and other hotels as it is very time-consuming. Pick a hotel which has everything that you require and ask them for their honeymoon packages. We would recommend Jumeirah Vittaveli as their service is really good. They take care of every guest and each family is assigned a personal butler to take care of any need. Arjun had a bad tummy when we arrived in the Maldives due to the travel and our butler – Salim helped us out and even got him medicines.”

Must Avoid
“The Maldives is beautiful – there is nothing you need to avoid once you are there but remember to carry and apply sunscreen as the sun rays can get pretty strong there.”
