Komal Lakhani and Anand Shankar, Mauritius and Seychelles

Why choose only one tropical honeymoon paradise when you can have two? Komal and Anand’s romantic honeymoon in both Mauritius and Seychelles was doubly dreamy.

Buggy rides in the rain, gambling at a casino, a private Jacuzzi and more – this couple made the most of their honeymoon on the seaside patios of Mauritius and Seychelles

How we Met
Our love transcends boundaries, countries and continents. We first met in Mumbai and instantly connected. Anand was attracted to me but didn’t dare tell me about his feelings. Still, we kept in touch and continued our friendship. Even when both of us went abroad to pursue higher education, we used to call and video chat. It was only in 2012, that my mention of another guy friend triggered an impulse in Anand and he immediately came out and proposed to me. I was reeling and instantly said ‘yes’.

Honeymoon Planning
We picked Mauritius and Seychelles for our honeymoon. I had no idea where we were going – Anand wanted it to be a surprise. So he picked a place neither of us had been to, gave me some cryptic packing instructions and we headed out to relax and de-stress after the crazy wedding.

Honeymoon Highlights
We spent most of our time in the well-equipped resorts. There was a couples’ spa, romantic dinners on the beach, local dance performances, water skiing, canoeing and scuba diving all at the beach connected to the resort.

In Mauritius we checked into the Intercontinental Resort. We had an amazing top floor, corner suite with a private jacuzzi on the patio overlooking the ocean. We just walked around the capital city, Port Louis, gambled (for the first time in our lives) and explored the surroundings to our hearts’ content.

We stayed at Le Meridian Fishermen’s Cove in Seychelles. We had a suite with a sun deck that overlooked the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. We explored the beach, the port side, a quaint church in Mahe Island, the 23 Sands Park and rode a buggy in the rain which was quite an experience! We also danced on the beach on a balmy afternoon, tried fries and burgers from a local food truck, visited the famous Victoria clock tower and the local casino and took the last bus back to the hotel. Another highlight was a private afternoon tea at the edge of the pier, the wind gently blowing and the Indian Ocean surrounding us on three sides.

Most romantic moment
My husband fell very ill and was prescribed antibiotics on one day in the trip. He could barely walk but managed to muster up the energy to go out with me for a few hours. We like to experience the local culture so we took the bus down to the port area, walked around in the pleasant weather, gambled and ended the evening by bringing back two large pizzas to our hotel!

Your advice to other couples visiting Seychelles and Mauritius for their honeymoon
If you plan to gamble at the Grand Kaz in Seychelles, make sure you set a limit before you enter because it’s very easy to get carried away. Seychelles also has a number of food trucks and street food places, try some of them. Do not overpack!

Must-experience
The beaches and if you have the time go for a trek. Also get into the nightlife and their local rum called Taka Maka.
