Mitali and Rahul, Antigua

Antigua offered this couple ravishing environs, as they chose a relaxing 'no sightseeing' honeymoon.

Mitali and Rahul knew each other from school, but sparks flew when they reconnected years later. After numerous texts and video calls, their love steadily blossomed, and as the years passed by, they decided to take the plunge. After tying the knot in their hometown of Vadodara, Gujarat, the newlyweds headed to the Caribbean Island nation of Antigua which offered them warm beaches to relax on after their hectic wedding.

How they met
Mitali shares, “Rahul and I first met 18 years ago when we were in the eighth grade, but would barely talk to each other back then, post which I moved to the US. Seven years later, we met again through mutual friends and instantly hit it off. However, it took three years and a fateful trip to Goa to make sparks fly. After that, we kept in touch constantly via texts and video calls.

We even juggled a long-distance relationship for a year as Rahul had to move to the US to pursue further studies, but it only made our relationship stronger. Also, being a Marathi and Jain Gujarati, we thought our parents would be hesitant about our match, but, in the end, things worked out in our favor as they accepted our love wholeheartedly.”

Honeymoon Planning
Mitali shares, “We’ve always wanted to visit places around the world alphabetically to celebrate our marriage anniversary each year. Given the cold weather in New York, we yearned to go someplace sunny and warm where we could relax without a busy sightseeing agenda. Antigua ticked all the boxes for us, and we were lucky enough to find the all-inclusive and intimate COCOS Hotel which offered us a sunset pool cottage overlooking the gorgeous turquoise sea.”

Best Meal of The Trip
“Literally every meal we had during our honeymoon was amazing. Since the resort was all-inclusive, we enjoyed custom-made ‘a la carte’ breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Being a vegetarian here was not a restriction since there were enough options for us. One of the staff members also very graciously got us mangoes from her home when we mentioned that we wanted to try Caribbean mangoes!”

Most Romantic Moment
“I have no idea how Rahul pulled off planning a private dinner on the beach for us under my nose! But, everything didn’t go according to plan and yet, we enjoyed it. We wore our fancy clothes, and our luck ran out the moment we sat down as it started raining, and we had to keep running to the shade with our waitress behind us, who was extremely gracious as she kept resetting our table. We couldn’t help but laugh at the entire situation! It was funny yet romantic.”

Must-experience Activities
“Antigua is a beautiful country, but the resorts there are gorgeous destinations in their own right. Nothing can beat the hospitality here and, if that’s not enough, you can always get your thrill from the variety of water sports available.”
