Nimmi and Swaroop – Maldives

Nimmi and Swaroop wanted a relaxing honeymoon after their busy wedding, and the Veligandu Island Resort & Spa in Maldives offered the perfect paradisiacal escape

“My husband Swaroop and I, are both doctors who hail from Kerala, and are currently based in the US. We got married after a year-long courtship during which I was busy doing my medical internship, and he was even busier doing his residency in Boston. But that period away from each other was what made everything so much sweeter! We got married on January 16th this year in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony at the famous Sree Krishna Guruvayur temple in Kerala.”

Honeymoon Planning
“We wanted an escape from all the hustle and bustle that normally makes the post-wedding period of couples so unromantic and boring. So, soon after our wedding and reception on January 20th, we flew to our dream destination, Maldives. We spent six days in that slice of heaven and I don’t think we’d find any place more exotic in our lives again!”

“We decided on Maldives because it was the dreamiest place we could think of and we knew for sure that after all the busy activities of the wedding and traveling, we would not be so keen on walking around exploring a city in Europe or a safari in Africa… we have a lifetime left to do those later.”

Honeymoon Highlights
“We flew from Cochin, in Kerala, to the capital of Maldives, Male. From there, we took a seaplane to Veligandu Island Resort & Spa which was like a paradise on earth. Memories of this beautiful place will stay fresh in our minds forever. Being a small island, it gave us the feeling of being secluded on our own heavenly spot.”

“We booked a Jacuzzi Water Villa here, and also spent a night at the Kuramathi Island Resort a day before we left. The pristine waters, the amazing hospitality, and smiling staff, a wide array of activities, luxurious spa facilities – everything at the resort was a class apart. We tried scuba diving, snorkeling, and private fishing tours. The coral reefs here are supposed to be some of the best in the world. My most romantic experience here are not limited to just one as there were many magical moments – be it having cocktails in the moonlight, watching an old Hollywood movie at the open-air theater or simply walking back to our villa without sandals and being serenaded by the waves as we hugged each other. We also loved the terrific food – featuring all types of cuisine from around the world – served at the various restaurants in the resort. My favorite was the desserts – there were eight to nine different varieties served daily.”

Advice to Couples
“We recommend that couples should definitely consider Maldives for their honeymoon. Plan to do absolutely nothing there! Just relax and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.”
