This Mumbai couple said ‘oui’ to a romantic escape in Paris and in turn brought back memories to cherish for a lifetime.
The French capital has an old reputation as the City of Love for all the diversions it offers couples. Enthralled by the Parisian cultural landscape and its aura of romance, Odella knew that this would be the perfect place for her honeymoon.
After a wonderful 10-day trip to Paris, she shares highlights of the trip.
How We Met
You could say there was a divine hand that brought us together. We had a number of mutual friends but we’d hardly had the chance to get to know each other until we began volunteering as catechists at our church in 2010.
We’d started meeting once a week but that pace soon fizzled out as Amit moved to a different continent to pursue his higher studies. Our occasional messages and phone calls petered out and soon all conversation died out completely.
Fast forward to 2015 – Amit decided to rekindle the friendship because he realized that he had developed feelings for me. Months later, he finally popped the question over the phone with Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud playing in the background. I took my own sweet time before finally deciding to give him a chance. As it turns out, we never had to look back.
What’s interesting is that our students at church saw the sparks between us and would tease us about it years before we discovered our true feelings! We tied the knot at the same church where we met seven years ago.
Honeymoon Planning
We left for our honeymoon immediately after our wedding and were in Paris for 10 days. I’d been to Paris twice before with friends and family and had dreamt of visiting the City of Love with the person I love.
Amit wanted to go to a beach destination so we were looking at Bora Bora but since the wife always wins, we settled for the place of my choice. While the French capital was the destination for our honeymoon, I have promised Amit that a beach destination is where we will go to for our next vacation.
Honeymoon Highlights
Paris is beautiful in the Christmas season. All the streets, hotel, cafes and shops are lit up and the air is filled with romance and a lot of holiday cheer. We visited, of course, the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur, Notre-Dame and the Louvre where we saw the famous Mona-Lisa. On the Champs-Élysées you will find the latest fashion trends because the street is filled with luxury shops, cafes, and theatres which ends at the Arc de Triomphe.
Since Amit is a Christopher Nolan fan we had to visit the Bir-Hakeim Bridge, after which we took a romantic stroll on the banks of the river Seine. The Tuilleries Garden is a beautiful place to just sit, catch a breath and take in the beauty of the city. We even made a visit to Disneyland Paris, to rediscover the inner child and I must say, it truly is the happiest place on earth.
Best Meal of The Trip
Angelina, one of Paris’ most iconic café’s was on our list of must-visits and it was worth it! There, we had the best macarons I have ever tasted and their hot chocolate was simply sinful.
Most Romantic Moment
We stayed at the Hotel Du Collectionneur and our room had an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower. One night, as we sat on our balcony sipping coffee the tower started twinkling. We were both mesmerized by its beauty and grandeur. It was a cold night and being there in the arms of the person I love the most and doing nothing but just absorbing how perfect everything was, is by far the most romantic moment for me. It was just perfect and definitely extra special.
Must Experience
My advice to others will be walking as much as you can in Paris because each and every street is a marvel and this is the best way to take in the beauty and romance the city has to offer. Walking lets you set your own pace and there is just something special in the air which makes your strolls rather romantic.
