Ridhika and Tarun – South Africa

12 days of fun and adventure in South Africa

Ridhika, a Graphic Designer and her husband Tarun, a Chartered Accountant visited South Africa. She writes about their holiday here.

Honeymoon Planning

We were toying between Seychelles and South Africa but finally we chose the latter. We were looking for fun and adventure, and spend time by the beach and weather-wise (first week of December) South Africa seemed perfect.

Length of Trip

11 nights / 12 days

Places Visited

Johannesburg and Sun City
We started with Johannesburg and moved to Sun City. The Sun City Hotel is an amazing resort and there’s so much to do– water rides, shopping, entertainment and more. We then visited Entabeni Lakeside Lodge which is a game reserve. The 4×4 open safari vehicle rides were an ultimate experience. We visited the reserve twice a day and got a glance of the top 5 wilds animals of the reserve. We were just few meters away from them and it was a ‘Dangerously’ Amazing Experience!

Port Elizabeth
In Port Elizabeth we stayed at The Kelway Hotel because the property has an amazing ocean view. In Knysna, we opted for a romantic dinner cruise followed by some shopping at the local markets.

Oudtshoorn
a) Cango Caves – This is Klein Karoo’s oldest and most popular attraction and one of the world’s natural wonders.
b) Safari Ostrich Farm – During a visit here, one must see the world’s largest bird which lays the largest egg. They havethe most beautiful features and one feels tempted to hug them. At the Safari, Tarun had ridden the bird; we touched the gigantic birds, stood on their eggs and cuddled the chicks.
c) Cango Wildlife Ranch

Capetown
We chose the sea facing Lagoon Beach Hotel for a day’s stay and just relaxed by the beach watching the Indian Ocean. The next day we checked in to The Cape Royale Hotel & Spa and did the city tour including Table mountain, Scenic coastal drive through Clifton & Sea Point, Green Market Square, District Six, Company Gardens and a scenic tour passing the Houses of Parliament, the City Hall, the Castle and Slave lodge.

We also opted for a Full Day Cape Point Tour which is Africa’s premier tour route to the romantic meeting place of the Indian & Atlantic & Antarctic Ocean. This tour offers a full and exciting day out including Hout Bay, a 30-minute cruise to the seal colony in a glass bottom boat, Cape Point nature reserve, Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope and Penguin colony in Simonstown.

Recommendations/ Advice

– In Entabeni it is very difficult to find vegetarian food. There, we survived on breads and pastas!
– The Safari rides in Oudtshoom and Entabeni, Cape of Good Hope in South-West Africa and Cape Point in Cape Town are our recommendations for must-visit and must-experience.
