Ritika and Ajay, Australia

Ritika and Ajay chose Australia with its rocking beaches, buzzing cities and scenic drives for their unforgettable honeymoon.

After a hectic wedding in November in Delhi, Ritika and Ajay decided to visit the Southern Hemisphere for some rest, relaxation, and romance. Here, Ritika shares some highlights from their 10-day honeymoon in Australia.

About us
“Ajay and I are both based in New Delhi. He is a math professor, and I’m a biology professor, yet somehow chemistry snuck in between us when we worked in the same organization! We tied the knot in New Delhi on November 11, 2016.”

Honeymoon Planning
“Our initial honeymoon choice for was a European trip, however, since we wanted to leave right after the wedding, we were told that the weather in Europe would be cold, dull and rainy so we started exploring other options. We wanted to experience a new city and travel somewhere far off. We love exploring new places and did not want to spend time in a hotel on the beach so most of the nearby island destinations were off the list. Australia proved to be a dream destination because we got to explore the wonderful cities of Sydney and Melbourne as well as enjoy the exceptional natural beauty that this continent has to offer.”

Honeymoon Highlights
“We stayed at the Meriton Suites in Sydney. They offer beautiful five-star apartments, and we specially opted for them because we wanted to experience living on our own as a married couple. We used to buy groceries and have fun cooking our dinner after a whole day of traveling. Our room was on the 40th floor and offered the most amazing view of the city! In Sydney, we visited the iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. It is much more magnificent than it appears in the movies. We went to the Taronga Zoo to see the unique fauna of Australia, including kangaroos and the adorable koala bears. We also visited the Sydney Tower and Madame Tussauds Museum. Bondi beach turned out to be quite a party destination.”

“Melbourne allowed us to experience three kinds of weather in a single day. It can get from hot and sunny to cloudy and chilly in a matter of minutes. We enjoyed the Crown Casino, the Grand Melbourne Cricket Ground, the wine and the breathtaking drive down the Great Ocean Road.”

Best Meal of the Trip
“The shacks around Bondi beach offered freshly brewed beer and the best burgers – and we tasted some of the most sumptuous ones there!”

Can-avoid
“We tried quite a few Indian restaurants, and none of them could come anywhere close to the way we Indians like our food. The dishes were bland and tasted nothing like home. We preferred the local cuisine while we were there.”
