Ruchika and Monil, New Zealand, Tahiti, and Bora Bora

Skydiving, whale watching, Mexican treats & Polynesian massages - this couple's honeymoon was packed with luxe adventures.

Ruchika and Monil had always known each other from their school days but never saw each other romantically. However, as time went by, the duo reunited when they hung out with common friends. They soon realized they shared something special and they fell in love and tied the knot. Ardent lovers of luxury and travel, the newlyweds quickly made their way to the island destinations of New Zealand, Tahiti, and Bora Bora to shake off the fatigue of their grand wedding. Here, Monil shares some interesting highlights and recommendations.

Honeymoon Planning
Monil shares, “Since Ruchika and I wanted to mix luxury and travel from the start, we set our sights on some of the luxury boutique hotels across the world. Bora Bora had always been on Ruchika’s list, so we zeroed in on it. As you can only go there from a few select locations in the world like Los Angeles or New Zealand, we chose the latter as it was more hospitable temperature-wise. The cherry on top, however, was our visit to beautiful Tahiti which one has to travel through to reach Bora Bora.”

Honeymoon Highlights
“We covered north and south of New Zealand as we traveled through various cities. Auckland, a picturesque British Colony named ‘Bay of Islands,’ Rotura for the thermal springs, Tauranga, and Queenstown featured on our list. The helicopter ride over the Franz Josef glacier was amazing and whale watching at Kaikoura left us speechless. Unfortunately, though, the COVID-19 pandemic led us to cut our trip short.”

Best Meal of The Trip
“As Ruchika and I are both food lovers, there would always be a great deal of discussion as to what our next meal should be. Thankfully, we ended up having some really amazing meals. We recommend El Zapata Mexicano, Rotorua which we consider as one of the best Mexican joints here and we loved their enchiladas, nachos, quesadillas, burritos, and definitely, they have the best hot sauce! Fergburger in Queenstown needs no introduction; it’s worth the hype indeed! At Conrad, in Bora Bora, a birthday meal for Ruchika at their Italian restaurant included unique curated meals, and we especially loved their mushroom risotto, Verdure Pizza, and the pesto vermicelli pasta.”

Most Romantic Moment
“For Ruchika’s birthday, I’d planned some fun activities and made some special arrangements in the room. There was a meal by the ocean, an underwater scooter ride, an amazing dinner especially curated for us, and a lip-smacking cake. Overall, the entire day was a whirl of activities and ended with us lazing on our hammocks and stargazing.”

Must-experience Activities
“In Bora Bora, one must experience the jet ski tour, underwater scooter, and just take time off to chill by the pool. In New Zealand, there are a plethora of experiences like river rafting in Rotorua, onsen hot pools, skydiving, shotover jet and luge rides in Queenstown, flying a private plane in Wanaka, Milford Sound Cruise, Greystone Purepods, and the Polynesian Spa in Rotorua.”

Can Avoid
“Nothing in any of the two countries should be avoided, but if you’re short on time, you can miss the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Park, Hell’s Gate Mud Bath, Waitomo glowworm caves and the bungee jumping in Auckland.”
