Sandhya and Suresh – Malta

Tamil Movie Vinaythandi Varuvaya inspires them to pick Malta for their honeymoon

Sandhya and Suresh met at a common friend’s birthday party in Birmingham. They got married in Pondicherry in February 2014 and now live in London. About their honeymoon, Sandhya says, “the Tamil Movie (Vinaythandi Varuvaya) had two songs shot at Malta and we both loved the movie and its songs, hence we decided on Malta for our honeymoon even before deciding on our wedding dates!” Here, she tells us more about their amazing holiday.

Places visited

Malta is a tiny country and you can take a bus for â₡3 day pass and go around the entire country. It is 27 km long and 14.5 km wide (316 sq km). Our favourite places were:

Azure Window, Gozo- The cool breeze, scary height and scenic surrounding made it so special and romantic

Citadel in Victoria, Gozo- An amazing view from the top

Blue Lagoon, Comino- Clear waters, it surely felt heavenly

Sliema Bay- Pulsating nightlife and shopping centres with lots on offer

Valletta- Walk around the capital city, it is beautiful!

Grand Harbour- We got to see some fireworks while we were there

Blue Grotto- The bumpy boat ride around the caves!

Golden Bay- Tiny clean beach for a sun bath!

Mdina- The Knight’s Town and the old capital…we loved every part of it.

Hotel we stayed at

– The night walk we took inside Mdina, which is a medieval walled town situated on a hill in the center of the island. The whole city was beautifully lit and the cool breeze added to the excitement. We danced to the song ‘Hosanna’ and spent an entire evening walking around every street of Mdina.

– The Scuba Diving Experience at Mellieha bay was nothing short of amazing. A totally different world down there and being under the clear blue water and experiencing the underwater world together surely made our trip more special.

Best meals

– On top of the Citadel in Gozo, there is a family run restaurant that served yummy traditional Maltese food. We ate bruschetta, pasta and baked pizza.
– We both love Indian food and we were amazed to see an Indian Restaurant named Krishnas at Sliema Bay. The food was authentic and delicious, we also discovered that the owner was a friend’s Uncle and the Chef is from Pondicherry which is Suresh’s home town! They surely made us feel at home.
